Tampico 2014-2015 #2

So to the guys that made it up...do you think it was wise to berm at the bottom or should it be at whites or even tree phones? I'm thinking long term here or even a week out what will we have? Possibly the same problem we had the past month...no access?

I was surprised that it was just fine having it at the snow park this weekend, however, I don't think that will be the same story next weekend... It was fine going up, but there was definitely some gravel showing on the ride back Sunday afternoon. It would be nice if it was moved back to White's ridge for next weekend.

some pics from saturday , not from me but from a friend. heading up friday. Just spoke to one of my good friends who is the new groomer up there , he says there was 1 ft of fresh pow today with more coming

Rode yesterday. It's already showing gravel & the snow that remains is really thin. I'm thinking by Friday it will be bare gravel for a mile past the berm.

And if im not mistaken, from november?

I don't know who makes the decisions but placing the berm that low this late in the year, when anyone can see a forecast is nuts. No reason that we can't drive at least to whites ridge or even tree phones. The odds of low snow and cold Temps below 4000 are rare this late in the season. However good high elevation snow is expected.
Give us access. ....on snow!

I think placing the berm where it is was necessary for this past weekend however, it does indeed, need to be moved to whites ridge for the upcoming weekend.

Berm / Grooming Info

Berm should be moved Friday night when the next grooming is set to occur (not sure how far up it will go). The person that is responsible for berm placement is the Groomer or the DNR. DNR was not happy about the relocation (even though it was fine for the last weekend). Dependent on running the groomer on gravel, road safety and snow fall=never the right decision for everyone, especially on a crappy year like this one. At the time of grooming (Friday night) the forecasts were for more snow on Sunday night/Monday which did not happen. Any ideas for the DNR "plowing the road" for us would take a major effort which would mean monies moving from grooming to plowing (or an additional increase in Discover Pass price) for maybe 2 years in 10? If you want to drive up, use the North Fork. Jeeps are allowed on un-groomed or closed roads, hence the jeep activity at the Blue Slide lookout area last weekend (coming up from Jackass or Nasty Creek).

If you think this is bad, Kittitas county did not get hardly any snowfall last weekend; they are now shutting FS roads to all vehicles - which means you can't even drive up to the snow. Its all relative....

No new snow since last weekend near the snowpark; but has been cooler with some snow loss. Maybe a system next mid-week, but will not be as cold. The sucky weather pattern continues. 6-10 and 8-14 day forecast is for much above normal temps with normal to above precip.

The next grooming meeting will be Thursday, March 12th at the El Rincon in Yakima; dinner starts at 7pm. Being there have been some gripes (most legitimate, some not), this is a good chance to see how it all works (or doesn't at times). Way more official than a flailing keyboard on sno-west. The meetings are open for discussion - Join In! (and then I will elect you to my position (YCGC-AGC); just kick back, drink beer and bitch....OK, just kidding on that last part:face-icon-small-ton).

I will post a thread on how the grooming system works and where our numbers are for next year sometime in April. IN general > Bottom line - registrations down=less money for following year.

Tampico, thanks for the update I truly appreciate it. I was really hoping the berm would be moved by tomorrow morning but oh well. If it's still closed and looks bad and I'm sure it will out of the park, I just might take your advice and drive up North Fork. 2 weeks ago I rode my bike as far Snow Cabin so I would imagine that would be the place to park.

Don't give up yet......

It can still snow!:eyebrows:

Here are some pics from March 27, 2011.
I am hoping for the same thing this year! And by the way, I think I just saw the tooth fairy:face-icon-small-win
