Ahtanum Update

Rode Thursday Red Saddle and down North Fork (sorry I did not post this yesterday...)

Grooming will hopefully start this weekend (aiming for early Sunday morning (spoke to the groomer)); Middle Fork will be first, then North Fork. Red Saddle and Jackass still need more snow; even conditions on the lower Middle Fork and North Fork are marginal for grooming on the first 2-3 miles or so. I thought off trail conditions even on top were fairly skimpy; am waiting for more snow to ride again (hopefully Tuesday). North fork is rough above the Blue Lake intersection. Once grooming does start, it may be limited until lower level snow cover increases a bit (should be fairly soon).

Large tree across the trail above dead hole just below the old Green Lake road.

The new trail still does not have enough snow cover; encouraging people not to use it until we get some more. The road closed signs are still up - I will remove them once we get more coverage.

Any questions, PM me. I will update this more since the season has started.

Middle fork is ruff!
Still not enough base, lots and lots of untouched snow to be had up there! We rode mostly untracked snow all day. Man, it sure felt get to get up there with some friends and have a good time.

Pickups with Snowmobile Trailers - Stay in your damn Lane!

First the not so good news - been getting some reports of 'bilers taking up most of the road (especially on the corners on North Fork Rd.). With the recent (today) heavy snowfall - be patient and don't run anyone off the road - like the idiot that ran my friends of the road this afternoon (Ahtanum Rd. just below Marks intersection). Remember, there is two lane traffic on these roads - and lots of people travel up and down daily for work (including my wife); so take it easy when conditions are slick or deep...

For the good news - as of 2250-01/01/2016 at least 16-18"+ of new snow near the Ahtanum winter rec snowparks - and still coming down hard! The groomer is supposedly running tonight; Jackass and Red Saddle should be groomed this week. For those riding tomorrow (Monday); i doubt the road will be plowed prior to morning - be careful on the drive up. I rode the upper Jackass area yesterday and was surprised at how thin snow cover was at the lower levels.

New Ahtanum trail (North Fork to Jackass) The trail is complete and should be groomed this week. The signs are basically froze in; will probably get removed this week (people have just been going around them). Please use your throttle wisely as to not throw snow off of the trail - especially as it has no established grass on it yet. We also want to keep the trail as family friendly as possible to enhance access to the Jackass road (and the Nasty Creek Flats riding areas) for longer in the season.

Monday and Tuesday should be awesome! Check avy danger and dress for extremely cold temperatures.

Tampico grooming update - 01/04/2017

JackAss should be getting groomed today; including the new trail. The new trail starts around 0.75 miles up North Fork Rd.(north side of road) and ends up connecting to the JackAss Rd. The new trail is not yet signed; will try to get that done this weekend. Again, please use caution on the throttle on the new trail when going up the hill (want to keep the snow on the trail). Big thanks to the DNR, Jeff Jones and Ashly Arambul for working on this project and getting it done:face-icon-small-hap!

Red Saddle should also get groomed this week.

The North Fork / Middle Fork loop will also get done prior to the weekend.

Parking lots were plowed yesterday.

Any updates on Tampico conditions would be appreciated.
Anybody ride this weekend.

Thanks.

Sunday had 6" of new snow on my truck when i loaded up at 4pm.
Windblown and crusty as hell up top. Snow was literally better in the parking lot than the top of Darland.

Tampico Update

-01/18/2017 2200pm. We have had a lot of freezing rain with warm temperatures the last couple of days on top; snow park temps, however, barely got above freezing today. There has been very little snow loss down low.

However, we have had 1+" of new snow earlier this evening; on top of around .35" of ice. The trails will be groomed prior to the weekend. The forecast is for more snow Friday and Sunday - but probably no large amounts (but better than rain...). Temps should cool into the weekend and stay below normal for the next 10 days. After this weekend, may be a bit drier than what it has been.

High Avalanche Hazard warnings are still in place! Be careful!

The roads are icy; travel with care!
