Tampico 16/17, Part 2

A volunteer firefighter friend of mine just told me they called for a rescue helicopter to rescue someone on Darland. Does anyone know what happened?

Not sure what happened but I do know that all of the ambulance went to the lower old parking lot.

Guy dropped off a cornice in to the super bowl.
For what ever reason, the sled did a front flip when he went over and the sled landed on his head and caused a lot of upper body injury.
Onlookers said He did not give the sled enough gas when he dropped off. Or maybe he did not know it was a cornice.

Amazingly, he was helped to the bottom of the bowl and he rode his sled up to the top then realized how severe the injuries were.
Helicopter came and picked him up.

Hope the guy recovers fully and quickly. I saw the copter this afternoon and thought something bad must have happened. Other than that found some pretty great snow for late March. 1st ride at ahtanum in 5 years, wow it has changed a lot.

Grooming has ended at Ahtanum

-Grooming has ended at Ahtanum 03/24/2017. Money has run out.

-On Saturday, North Fork was decent, Middle Fork was getting choppy. NO bare spots on either.

-Jackass - New Trail was still in decent shape, only a few bare spots. The old road was narrow (ice strip), with numerous bare patches just above the lower tree line near the bottom. The new trail was a definite improvement; look for less grooming on the old road next year.

-Berms will probably come down around the 1st (maybe the 3rd).

Rode yesterday. Was probably some of the best snow I've rode all year, plenty of fresh and a huge base up there. It was awesome in the trees.
There is plenty of snow on the road but it is in horrible shape (middle fork). Where does all the money go?!!
Hear this same story every year we actually get snow.
I was paying close attention to the snow depth on the road all the way to the park and there is still plenty of solid snow so I hope they hold out on tearing the berm out until it starts showing bare patches.

I'm glad to hear the rider turned out to be ok and was glad to be able to help get his sled back to civilization. Snow was good this weekend and I was hosting a couple friends from Canada who thoroughly enjoyed their visit down here... The weather was excellent on Saturday with decent snow, but poor visibility Sunday as it was snowing hard all day, though the snow was deeper! It's really pretty amazing that there's NO bare spots on the middle fork as of yet, it just shows how much more snow there was down low, and subsequently how much more grooming it took to keep it in shape all season long.

Come on mid week riders, give us some info, i know u went already!

8-10" on top. We parked about a mile past berm, should've went farther, lots of gravel. Solid snow past Whites ridge. Berm is pretty good size, I wouldn't recommend hopping it with a trailer. Might be small enough by the weekend.
