Tall Men's Jackets?

This has been my main issue as well. Like I have posted elsewhere, I ended up with a FXR Renegade XC jacket in the XLT size. It comes with a zip out liner which I did due to the extreme insulation property of the liner. With only the shell, it fits just right. I have had to use long gauntlet style gloves in the past to keep my wrist warm and some-what dry. Now, I can get by with a more standard wrist length glove. I have used this jacket for 2 seasons now with no issue of wear and tear.

As you can see in the photo (grey jacket) it fits me, as I am about 6' 6" and currently 245#. Granted, I do have the backpack snapped up it still doesn't tent up around the middle like some larger jackets I have used to get the sleeve length. Even with my arms extended such as on the riding photo, the sleeves are still covering clear down to my wrist length gloves.

Now that I have written all that up, I see they don't offer that size on their website anymore...

This is what I'm dealing with, hard to take pictures myself. Somone make long sleeved jackets!

'14 MotorFist Next2Skin Size XL. This is about how the arms lie on me natrually I can pull them down a bit but soon as i move they are back like this.

'14 Motorfist Trophy Size 2XL with TekVest underneath. ( the tekvest does cause some of these issues... I can't even imagine the XL version )
I tucked the spandex cuff in so it would show better its not interfeering
Arm straight down

Arm out front

Arm out front bent 90

My Motorcycle Jacket, Winner winner...and its not even a tall version. to bad its not much of a snow jacket.
Troy Lee Blias Racing Jacket, Size 2XL with TekVest underneath.

Best I have found is a Mountain Hardware jacket. They seem to have the longest sleeve lengths I have found. Not a specific sledding jacket but very well built for sure.

I'm glad this thread poped back up. I have had the same issue as many are facing with long arms. I 'm also skinny with broad shoulders.

I was speeking with Bob from Klim at Denver snow show telling him how I had to sell my 2012 valdez becuase the arms where just to short. He then informed me that they finally added 2.5 to 3" to the arms of there jackets for this years model. I tried on the new L valdez and the arms where significantly longer and it almost fit me. If i was to remove the shoulder pads it would probably fit perfect without a vest under.

They have also lengthed the back of the valdez so it nowcompletely covers the butt which is nice.

Im 6'3 and have 36 1/2" arms. 190lbs for reference

I tried a new klim valdeze xl on at lunch. Arms are definitely longer than my 2xl motorfist trophy..still too short. I also tried a ski doo helium 30 xl non tall it had the longest arms of the bunch or very similar to the Klim Valdeze XL I tried. I bet the tall ski doo would be perfect... but like poster above said the torso was really really short .. I dont think the extra 1.5 on the torso for tall version would make much diff for me to bad because the arms would probably fit.

Bummer.. guess I'll stick with the short fat man motorfist.

....most people must be short and fat.

We are just freaks.... its just weird they make tall pants for us but not jackets. It goes hand in hand dont it? Dealership today said I was the second one asking for a tall jacket. I dont know a single person with 36+ inseam ( where tall pants start ) that does not need longer sleeves and torso.

BlownMotor,

You mentioned you measured somone there that thought they needed tall.

Could you measure under their armpit to their wrist? I feel like thats the spot that is cauing all the comotion for me.

I have 25" from my armpit to my wrist on the underside.

Here is a pic of a 2XL motorfist, and a 2XL troy lee
they are a little off lined up wise but the troy lee is a good 4" longer for sure.

Edit just measured my xl decente ski jacket armpit seam to cuff. 22" now its sleeves are way to short but it doenst restrict my movement like the motorfist 2xl. Im so confused right now.

I feel like I got a 2xl jacket with m/l sleeves on it

Ok fellas, was able to grab a jacket we had here, it is a L because we are all packed up for the Puyallup show this weekend. But it will at least give you reference to what we are talking about.

First we took a picture of the shop owner wearing the jacket, on a sled in riding position. The owner here, is 6'2" 200 with 76" Wing Span, 32" Sleeve measurements, and a 34" inseam. Typically he wears an XL but for this experiment a Large does somewhat fit. As you can see by this picture the sleeves are plenty long for what this jacket was designed for. The pictures above are all of a Motorfist Trophy Jacket, designed to be raced in or as a free ride piece. Basically, stand up riding. As you guys have probably noticed with many jackets in our industry the sleeves are not straight but actually have like 20* angle in the elbow sewn into the material. This natural bend is where your arms are during 90% of the riding. So yes when he sticks his arms straight out from his chest the sleeves come up past the wrists, but lets be honest at what point are you ever riding with your arms straight out in front of you? Maybe when you are sitting down, but again that is not what most of these jackets are made for. Realizing that some of us ride sitting down to and from the good riding, that is not what 90% of the riding we do is. These jackets are becoming more and more technical riding specific pieces.

The next picture we took was of the sleeve measurement. Sleeve measurements are taken from the center of your back, right on your spine to the wrist with your arms spread eagle. As you can see, with this Large coat, it measures 32" which is what a Large is supposed to be for Motorfist. Again we point out that know body rides like this haha.

The last pic is measuring like you guys have in the above pics. I just did this to show you what a Large measures. Again this measurement really is not indicative of any sort of riding position or measurement.

We think that there are some of us yes that have abnormally long arms, but we do think that the jackets are made the way they say they are and come out to the measurements that they should. It is not companies skimping on material haha. The reason some other jackets seem to have longer arms etc, is because they are made for riding specific to that jacket. A Troy Lee jacket is made for sit down riding on a motorcycle where your arms are stretched out in front of you, which is why it will be longer.

Thanks for all of those pictures BlownMotor! thats helpful I'm going to take a measurement of mine again when I get home... I feel like by those pictures my 2xl sleeves are not any longer but the body is jut wider to make up for it.

I understand that the sleeves have a cut/curve to them, nevertheless they are just barley passable on length if standing up..start moving side to side or anything that involves my arms moving and I get so much binding under the pit that it pulls my entire jacket up my body...and the cuffs way down my arms. I would not want to be digging snow with this thing on.

I have to disagree with your that Troy Lee is for sitting down.. It was Designed/influenced by Chris Blais, he don't sit down. ( Well he does now as he is in a wheelchair )

Anyway, I'm going to try send this one back and go another route its just not going to work for me even standing up.

Can someone measure a new '14 XL Klim Tomahawk or Storm in the fashion blowm motor did? My local shops don't have any.. but i did feel the Valdeez XL had longer arms similar riding cut but did not bind on me when moving my arms.

Edit: Blown Motor, that last picture, I know you said its not indicative of anything but how the heck is a Large the same length as a 2XL in that spot? that makes no sense.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to find something that works for me :)

Thanks, see look at that!

The under the armpit part is almost 5" longer than the 2XL motorfist I have. I know you say that measurement doesn't mean anything but that's the exact spot i can feel the coat running out of space when i move my arms around.

I think one of those would work a lot better for me.

Edit: Measured my motorfist trophy 2xl its indeed 36" its unfortunately all in the body not the sleeves.

Also measured my Troy Lee Blais 2XL .. its about 36-37", but its in the sleeves..look how much longer they are from the body.

Anyway the motorfist is going back today, just trying to figure out what to exchange for .. leaning towards Klim Tomahawk its sleeves are not quite as long as my troy lee but they are a major improvement.

Out of curiosity after reading/viewing the above posts, I just measured my old Klim Valdez XL and new 2XL. They both have 23" arms (there is also the thumb cuff for added length/snow protection), the extra width is in the body only for 2XL.

I have a 77" wing tip to tip measurement and never had a problem with the XL Valdez arm length. I bought a 2XL this season due to old age growth, we'll see how it works out in a month or so.

Thanks for the pictures Blown Motor!
