Taking over a snowcheck questions

I'm having problems taking over someone's snowcheck and was wondering how everyone is making this happen? I worked something out with a person who wanted out of the one he had. We both called the dealer three months ago and the salesman said no problem. So I give the guy his $500 and he gives me all the paper work needed to pick sled up and the dealer even sent me the purchase agreement. I get the call two weeks ago saying the sled is in and needs to be picked up in the next couple of weeks or I will have to forfeit the snow check agreement and pricing.. So I get them everything they need to make the deal go through last Wednesday and the dealer calls me Thursday morning saying every things ready to go and you can pick it up on Friday. Then later Thursday night the GM of the dealer calls me saying that snow checks are non transferable and only the original person on the purchase agreement can pick the sled up and get the snow check pricing and finance options. They even said that the sled needs to be in the original persons name for 120 days before you can transfer sled and warranty... We went back and forth and they said they will still sell me the sled but for way more money, plus I'm out the $500... Sorry so long just wondering if there's anything I can do at this point? Thanks

Sounds like he is trying to get more money from you. I would tell him to stick it!

I would call a different dealer and confirm that you can't transfer. I would also fight that pricing pretty hard. You had this deal worked out with them for a while, they agreed to sell you the sled for that price and it's kinda shady that they give you a call this late in the game and change the deal... Hope it works out for you.

If I tell him to stick it I'm out $500 and he doesn't lose any sleep over it cause he will just sell it to the next guy for more money...

x2 on contacting another dealer. i would also try and get ahold of the regional sales rep and see if he can get things worked out for you.

The dealer talked to the regional sales rep and he's the one saying that it can't happen, or that's what there trying to tell me anyways... The purchase agreement does say that it's not transferable but that's why we called to clear things up before we did it..

U are doin them a favor by takin the sled. If the guy who sno-checked it just backed out he be out 500 bucks and the dealer stuck with the sled. As for warranty and sno-check 600 dollars they are right. U cant switch that into ur name the guy who sno-checked does. So this is what I do...Call the guy that snow-checked it, have him write u a bill of sale for the sled...then u walk into the dealership together and u give him the money and let him buy the sled and anything u want for it with the 2 year and 600 cash deal. then when u leave u take the sled home. He already gave u the bill of sale that its urs. And u transfer it into ur name when winter is over. When u do need warranty work just say u him until then. dealership never ask for id. It sounds like a pain in the butt...But this is all of u have now. Because the dealership probably has a guy thats willin to pay big money for it. I hope this helps.

The good thing about this is I have been in contact with the original snow checker and he's willing to do what ever it takes to make this work in my favor. You are right though, this is my only option at this point and probably the one I will be taking... The original guy beat them up pretty hard and got a great deal on the sled comparable to what Ken's sports was offering and they want nothing more then for me to not pick this sled up because of the high demand for it... Thanks

Make sure u have the vin on the bill of sale before time too. I sure the guy is happy that he is not out any money and will do this for u. If not, then I don't have to tell u what everyone on here would think.

When you leave the dealership be happy to never use them again. Also let them know your new dealers location. Even though the "REP" was blamed they could have made it happen others do.

sounds to me like you have them by the Balz ...you have the purchase AGREEMENT!! it is in your name right?..they sent it TO YOU!! anyway if all else fails they should have to give you the $500 back!!
justmy2cents..

I have the purchase agreement with the original snow checker name on it. My name is also on it but it is written in ink by the original snow checker stating that I paid him $500 and that I would be taking over his snow check. Keep in mind this was all ok'ed by the dealer salesman over the phone that it was legit to do it this way. He made it sound like this happens all the time and is know big deal. The salesman also sent me the original snow checkers purchase agreement through email using a pdf file with the original snow checkers name on it... So the dealer has the $500 from the original snow checker and I paid $500 to the snow checker... The dealer is out nothing at this point and is $500 ahead at this point... It's me that would be out the $500 if I couldn't get a hold of the original snow checker to pick it up under his name . Either way I'm picking up the sled with the original snow checker there making it legit and then transferring the sled to me at he same time... Not sure why a dealer/Polaris would care if I pick it up or the original owner, a sale is a sale no matter how you look at as far as I'm concerned... Thanks

I'm sorry you had to deal with such a horrible dealer. Let us know what happens when you pick it up

It's not the dealer..its polaris that wont let a second person take over on a snowcheck..its in the snow check paper work..to be legit the original snowchecker has to buy the sled and sell it to you afterwords..and then you can transfer the title and warranty..It is the first i have heard about the 120 day transfer wait period but most likely that is legit as well...have the original guy go with and get it bought...

Yea, I understand Polaris's take on this now, and I'm not blaming anyone besides myself for not making it 100% legit with getting everything in writing with my name on it .. I took the salesman word for it!! I pretty much just started this thread to make others aware of how the snow check really works being I have a lot of time into trying to take this one over.. If someone takes one over and can't get a hold of the original snow checker to purchase it they will more then likely not get their $500 back... Thanks

I took over someone's snowcheck last year and it was smooth as butter. I picked warranty package (took 2 years and $600). We left the warranty in the original owner's name and registered in my name. A dealership can make it work. Good luck

Skip, sounds like your getting this worked out, sorry about all the trouble, but try to focus on how great a winter it's gonna be on the new sled and smile!!
