I thought I would post some pics of my T3 build. I have been running my aerocharger on etec's since 2011 and have been very happy with the performance but thought there was room for improvement on booth the bottom and mid range. I felt this had more to do with how the etec motor is designed more so than the turbo system.
I hooked up with John this summer and we started milling over what to do with the 800 etec. Originally, I was looking at porting the stock 800 motor and massaging the head a bit and going with dual ring wossner pistons. As it turns out, it is very difficult to find bad etec cylinders and I had a hard time justifying grinding on a good set. I opted for a set of snow x cylinders. You can order snow X cylinders for the etec in whatever bore (within reason) that you desire. So, we decided to go with the 860 for the additional torque along with headwork, porting, and wossner dual ring pistons.
So far the sled has the following:
-SHR 860 BB built specifically for turbo application
-aerocharger turbo with my "left over garage parts" intake.
-TKI belt drive
-clutch lightened and trued by SHR
- next level windshield bag
Still waiting on:
-race worx front and rear bumpers and boards.
might consider depending on reviews:
-skinz arc coupling system
I put a few miles on in the ditch this past weekend before the snow was gone. All I can say is "mission accomplished". The throttle response is BB like and pulls all the way through the RPM range.
I havent touched the clutching from my 14 and its pulling at 1500 ft with 5lbs of boost what it would pull with 9lbs of boost at 9000'. You cant argue with clutching
I can't comment on the longevity of the motor at this point but I am honestly not concerned as I have always had good luck with John's builds.
Here is a short vid to illustrate throttle response. This is an idle to full throttle stab...super clean with no stumbles! Kind of a lame video with virtually no snow but you get the idea.
More vid to come when we get west or get more snow in the plains.
Oh, by the way, if your debating between challenger extreme 3" or T3 3". I have run them both and the T3 3" is going to be a more well rounded track IMO. My challenger 3" would not have hooked up in most of what I was riding in yesterday.
