Anyone had the carriage bolts fawk up the track? Had to take my rack off and i couldnt put it back on in same place, it chewed it up. Did they make channel bigger on pros to fit a metric size???

Took my rack on and off my iq lots and no issues..

EDIT mountainhorse: The "track" in discussion here is the slotted track on top of the tunnel used to hold down the seat/tank and accessories on the rear of the sled.

I had one do it on a burandt flyer bag. After seeing it all snaffled I stopped to look at the bolt and it came from Polaris with a taper to it made for right hand twist.

1/4" carriage bolt across flats on square is 0.260 max and 0.245 min, m6 is .255 max .231 min....

so i dont think a m6 would be better.

a m8 is a little bit smaller than a 5/16" carriage bolt....

m6 uses a 10mm wrench and the m8 uses a 13mm wrench for the nut.

whats the size of the polaris seat bolt and nut?

When your t tracks where out take a piece of 3/4 wide plate 1/8 thick and weld some 1/4 20 all thread in the center. If the plate needs to be long you might have to remove the tunnel cap to install.

NICE FIND!!

i found these. the store is near by, gonna go see if they have any.

Just checked my tunnel on the dragon and the Pro...Same dimension slots...

A 1/4" carriage bolt fits much better in the slot than the M6 bolts that are used stock on the PRO.

I just took a 1/4" carriage bolt and put a weld bead on opposite sites extending the square part. Can't spin in the track anymore!

i just need to go out and buy a welder...

i have a tap and die set. think ill buy some aluminum FB 3/4"X thickest i can fit, drill it out and leave a 1/16" and use a bottoming tap and lock tight a stud in.

Excellent point Dan!!

I was planning on doing this with screw in studs that have a dead spot in the middle.. putting it in the nut till it bottoms, grinding any extra off flush with the nut... The putting the nuts in and the stud with some red loctite.

McMaster Carr has this one in Stainless
My hardware store has them as well.

Be careful using nuts in the T slot! Too long of bolt and you'll spring a leak!! Just sayin!

Yes. I no longer use carriage bolts. I now use these:

For most applications, I use a 3/8" Button head screw. If what I'm attaching is thicker I may go with the 1/2" screw and washers. Just be careful that you're not bottoming the screw out on the bottom of the track.

These are nice as they won't 'cam-out' and damage the track and the load is spread out over a larger area.

They're actually holding my ski rack setup to my sled right now.
