T-apex overheats on boost

call paul at Impusle he shoud be able to get you some or tell you were to get them. www.Impulseturbo.com

I actually just got a head gasket from him tonight. He's out of town and had another guy pull a head gasket for me to pick up (what a man!)

With the level of boost I'm running (16-17) he wasn't sure it would need the hd studs and has both good and bad experience with the standard and the hd studs.

Paul is a great guy to deal with, if you go with out the hd studs use the same tork procedure, sometimes you can get by with just using the proper tork procedure, and making sure everything is clean. I think most of the problems people have is due to the install not done properly.

Head gasket

Do what Snowy said. Keep your work area clean. I have ran 18 lbs abunch with stock head studs and no problem once I got it sealed up. Dont skip going back 1/4 turn, that is the key to getting a great clamp.

thats a good point but if it were me and i had bought a used sled or have had a head gasket leak, i think since i was there i would spend the $$ and just buy some good studs or new yamaha studs.
the reason i would go that way is if the other person over torque the stud and stretched it out past its yield point it will just keep stretching. thats too much work and cost with new head gasket (two if you have a shim) and oil and coolant ....ect. just stud it

one more thing to check for
Check for a small hole in CAC system sometimes with the trucks I work on if the Charge air system has a small leak small enough you might not feel any boost loose but the charge air pressure is down. this with cause the burn to be lacking and cause higher temps in the cyclinder.

more fitting for a diesel because adding fuel on a diesel = higher egt's

adding fuel for a gasser = lower egt's

so if it was over fueled because of a boost leak then it will more than likley run like a blubbering pig but since most of the add on systems read the boost pressure and add fuel accordingly a small leak will more than likley go un-noticed.

I agree if it was me i woukd due the studs while I was there.

Just a little update...it was the head gasket. I put the new one in and took it for a ride yesterday. NO MORE STEAM BATH :D It ran the best it ever has for me.

Now the big downer :( I was climbing out a little chute and shoulda turned out sooner, but kept pushing it right till I launched it off a little cliff about 30 feet down. I was at the top of the cliff still so I didn't get to see it cartwheel, but I'm going to think positive because now I can get a new lightweight tunnel and front suspension...and front bulkhead and plastic and who knows what else :(

But thanks for the input on the head gasket, that was the ticket.

Well..........look on the bright side of things. The head gasket is fixed, sooo one less thing to do now. J/K Ah that sucks! You going to fix it this year or wait?

Heck, if I can find a tunnel, I will have it fixed by the end of the month. However, isn't it about a 6-8 week wait time (or more) for a tunnel?

If anyone knows of a 174 CR that's available right now, I'd be way interested :D
