SUVs for the wife?

Looking for a newer suv like 2008 or newer. We thought we liked the newer 4runners and have a friend with one but haven't been impressed with the mileage and the actual size of it. We currently have a ford escape and it is to small for us. How are the tahoo and yukons for mpg I know what they are rated for but want some real world numbers seems like nothing gets what they are actually rate for also this would be a non xl model.

I am pretty impressed with our Chevy traverse. It's defently not a Tahoe or Yukon, but I like the mileage and they where more in my price range. They have 3 row seating and a pretty good size cargo area. We get any where between 17 to 20 mpg. Some day we will get a Yukon or a Tahoe but for now it works get for I need. Plus my wife needs a little more practice before I will put her in a full size suv.

Ok well I don't know if that would work with us. Do you have kids in car seats? These car seats now days take up so much room and they are in them way longer then when we were kids. Im not worried about size of the vechicle and her able to drive it, because anytime she goes somewhere more then just to town to get grociers or shopping she will take me cc duramax to fit everything. Her family lives 200miles from were we live so when she goes she packs for at least 3-7 days. Plus I would like to have something that sits up a little higher we live out of town and get some deeper drifts and most of the crossovers and newer suvs sit pretty low. Even the tahoos and yukons sit a little low. Thanks for the info.

My wife runs a 2012 Explorer. It is pretty nice, but since we live in town now, it is only FWD. She had the Escape as well, and though it is a good vehicle, it was small for 4 of us. The new Explorer she has now with the EcoBoost engine (2.0-I4) gets roughly 20 mpg commuting and 25-28 mpg on trips. Snorty motor too, but the 4WD still comes with the 3.5 V6 which is no dog either, just gets a hair less on mileage I hear.

We have a 2007 Tahoe it's nice we get 14-16 without the bully dog chip and 17-20 with it. Nice part is we use to pull our snowmobile trailer with it. Seats 5-6 comfortably and has decent power to boot. And it still gets 8-10 pulling the trailer.

my wife has an 11 yukon xl and we get average 17 MPG on the highway going 70. plenty of room for carseats! the 5.3 has active fuel management where it shuts down 4 cylinders when not in demand of the power to help on fuel and i think it works great. we havent had any issues on it in 40K

Take a look at the new GMC Acadia. It had better passenger volume than a Yukon front to back (Yukon is a little wider). Little less space than an XL. Has a great awd platform. It is rated at 23 mpg highway and that is achievable. I drove one from Montrose Colorado to Fort Collins in a snowstorm. I never really slowed down, the chassis felt great. On the trip I got 20 mpg and I was stuck in bumper to bumper ski traffic several times (not good for economy).

They did a really great job updating the Acadia in 2013. Soft touch interior, intellalink stereo allows you to stream music from a phone or iPod through Bluetooth, accepts voice commands, etc (if you're not into the technology you can just use it like a regular radio, turn the tune knob and pick your radio station).

Backup camera is standard, seating for 7-8, rear entry is 48" wide (fits plywood and drywall inside of it). Starts in the mid $30's and goes up to $50k for a Denali. Right now there is $1500 in rebates or 0% for 60 months.

If you want a similar but nicer vehicle look at the Buick Enclave. Same chassis, motor, transmission but better refinement, better warranty, better ride, more standard options, quieter.

The Acadia is shorter than an explorer but has more interior volume. You can also actually out two adults comfortably in the 3rd row. Not too many SUVs can you say that about.

Yes I sell these but it's a great vehicle. Take a look at it.

The other thing I like about the Acadia over the Yukon is that if you have people in all 3 rows you still have a decent amount of cargo capacity. The seats are also wife friendly. Not heavy, extremely easy to fold down and back up.

Yukon is a better vehicle if you need to tow more than 5200 lbs.

I'd do some research before I'd buy a tahoe or yukon with afm a buddy of mine just had to buy a short block for his there is a lot of them that have oil consuption and cam lifter problems caused from the the afm system do a search on 5.3l afm problems and tsb regarding oil consuption and cam and lifter problems

My last SUV was a 2008 Nissan Armada LE. Super impressed. 4WD, 7 seats (2 rear folded flat into the floor), tons of power, leather, BOSE, parking sensors, back-up camera, 10,000 lb tow rating w/ rear air bags (came with from factory), 20" wheels, heated seats, rear-seat climate controls and entertainment, and other nice features.

Don't tell my wife but I thought it drove better, had more scoot and was more comfortable than her fully loaded '09 BMW xDrive 4.8i X5.

Ford Edge is VERY sweet.
The Ford Escape has come a LONG way also.

We have a Yukan Denali XL. LOVE the 6.2 power.

If the size ends up working for you, I will vouch that the 4Runner is a top top quality rig. I've had a bunch (2000, 2003, 2005) and they are excellent vehicles in every way. They are a pretty unique item, one of the only SUV's left that performs like a true bush rig. They don't have the interior space of the full size stuff tho, although as a 5 passenger the always were more than large enough for me. They are one of the only Toyota's left that are still built in Japan, and the quality was always noticeably higher than the models built in the US or Canada. Shouldn't be that way....but it is.

Yeah, we loved our 2003 'Runner, but our family out grew it. We sold it in 2007. Still miss it.

I realize that it is not up to Ford or import quality, but my wife really likes her buick Rainier.
