I was really surprised. All 4 mounted and studded at Sears was $812 and they are 10-ply tires too.

Just got a quote from Les Swab for the Blizzaks for my 20's for 1400.00 mounted. They felt I could get 4-5 seasons out of them if only used in winter months. He also stated they turn into a AT tire at 50% tread. Seems like a lot of money for only that short of time.
That is longer than a set of studs. Studs last about 3 years, and then you have to re-drill and put new studs in (tire shops normally will never pull and replace studs). Many of the replacements will just be thrown or lay over after the first season. Don't get me wrong, studs do work on glare ice and snow, but you have less traction on a dry road compared to stud-less tires.
I ran Yokohama Geolander AT/S rubber on my 99 Expedition and it did amazing in the snow with a trailer. I was extremely pleased with them. I heard reviews that the sidewalls were a little light for loaded 1-ton trucks so I have BFGs for winter tires on my F-350.
Will a 17" wheel fit around your brakes?

Agree 100%. I would take the Toyo's over blizzaks regardless of price.I would absolutely use the Toyo before the blizzacks. Had both. Toyos I believed were better all around. Slightly better snow and ice traction. Far better dry grip. Blizzacks felt spongy on dry.
If you are looking for a real winter tire, please please do yourself a big favour and ignore all the people on here who say that XYZ mud tire is the best winter tire they've ever had.
Regardless of what the previous post says, the BFG Mud-Terrains do as well in the snow as the A/T's just not quite as good in the ice.
