Survival saw

I carry one similar to that one, I also carry a folding hand saw for quick cutting of brush and limbs that occasionally get caught up.

My shovel handle saw does ok on trees but mainly its a back up for me. 14" Silky Bigboy is my main saw. Most everyone in my group has one of these and they are great saws, one guy even packs the katana with the 19" blade.

I do carry a folding saw but I haven't had very good luck with them. I do have a saw in my shovel but haven't tried it. Might have to give the silky bigboy a shot.

That's a snow saw, have you tried it on trees?

Maybe on just some smaller branches. I don't think that my particular one would hold up to a lot more. I used a coupon and bought a small fold up saw from Harbor Freight for about $3.00, it's razor sharp but probably only good for one use.

The saw in the shovel handle is probably good for one use to. I have one, it is for snow and will bend, break, and hack up the branch before ever coming close to cutting it.

I finally got to look at my shovel because I couldn't remember the brand name. (Ortovox) It says on the companies website that it's a wood and snow saw.

I carry one very similar to it and also a small hatchet. Hope to never have to use them. I do have a sno bungie folding saw that works good. I do have a saw in my shovel but I fear that wont work more than once.

Yes, the saw in the handle of the avalanche shovels are for working with snow pits and compression tests for avalanche information. The will work for small branches and such but I have seen a lot of them break and comments like WTF after the fact.

My saw of choice is a Gerber saw/machete that I have the case riveted to the tunnel. One must understand, mountain riders don't ride a lot of trails and the trails that we doo ride are groomed and it is seldom necessary to cut trees or branches on the main groomed trail. So our saws are used when the trees jump out at us and find their favorite spot; right between the skies and tight to the bumper. This scenario usually happens on decent or going down hill and it is very difficult to pull the sled backwards in this situation.

Those rope saws work awesome, cut through a 2ft diameter tree last spring in less than 5 mins! A must for sledding or even in the summer
