Summit Vs. Dragon

This topic has been countlessly debated. This comes down to one thing and one thing alone....RIDER PREFERENCE. I love my 155 Dragon. A Poo is very effortless to ride, very easy to sidehill either up or downhill. The problem is, they are almost to easy at times. My little complaint is this, they tend to want to slip out from under you on those steeeeeeep sidehills as where the M8 will like hold the sidehill. Personally, I do not like the flat, extreme rider forward style of the XP. Could I get used to it if someone gave me one for free? Probably so, but I could sell it to I guess. On the other and, my best riding buddy rides an XP. He is 170 lbs and rides it like a rock star. When we switch, he has my Poo tipped over 3 times in the first 5 minutes. So as I said at the beginning, rider preference. My advise would be to not rule out Cat and try all 3 sleds before you make a decision. Also consider how close each dealership is and what kind of service and support they offer. I switched from an 07 M8 that ran pretty good because my dealer was a D-bag. CHOOSE WISELY MY FRIEND, GOOD LUCK.

They are both GREAT sleds, but both very different, I feel that the Dragon is quicker to steer and more"flickable" that being said you can easily flick yourself right into the snow until you get used to the sled, I love boondocking with a pump gas Dragon, funnest sled I have ever owned. It also took a lot of mods and money to get it there. I sold an 08 XP after two seasons on it and it was a great sled, but for the first 2 rides on it after I bought it I wanted to sell it, I just could not get it to Doo what I wanted. After a couple more rides I started to learn how to ride an XP, once I did I was loving it. I could put that 163 into tighter places than I could my M1000 153, and so much lighter, floated better etc..after a few mods it was super fun to ride and the cat always stayed in the trailer. Also as many have pointed out he bottom line will be having a Dealer that can and will treat you right in both set-up and maintaining any sled you buy. But if you really want a bad sled a '74 Rupp is the answer

had a dragon 700 for 3 years. wicked sled, never one problem with it..
went to an 09 doo and damn did it take a lot to get used to it. had to change bar angles and suspension around.. but honestly once i got it dialed in for me.. its just as easy to throw around as my dragon was.. but at the end of the day my body is sore. xp will defiantly outclimb and it just tractors through the deep. not to mention if u like spinning around 180degrees on ur back wheels an xp is the way to go! both awesome sleds tho!!

I wll second that the xp is tough to get used to and really they are very similar to the dragons, but i love my d8. I am honestly sold on polaris so much i just picked up a d7. I just like how reliable and great running stock sleds they are.

i am 5 7 148 lbs so i went with a 700 rmk. I grew up riding skidoo and test rode an xp couldn't throw around like a polaris. Didn't like what i heard about 800 poo so got a 700. Cheaper and bulletproof. Never rode an xp with sway bar removed. So i just go lucky and rode both so that made my decision. I am not looking for the highmark everytime, just want to be able to take my sled where i want to go

I am in the same boat. I havent rode in 5 years and everyone has their own opinion about which sled is the best. Some say the doos are hard to tip and side hill then I know guys 150lbs that say they are easy. My guess is they are all probably easier than any of the older chasies like the zx or the edge and I didn't think they were too tough. From all the info I have gathered it sounds like the dealer is what will make or break your overall satisfaction with the sled because they are all good sleds.

and I would like to point out that the 155 in polaris and arctic cat in 153 actually compares to the 146 doo.

I disagree. Maybe the sq inches are close, but the 146 Doo doesn't seem to float as well as the 155 Polaris. I would say the 155 Polaris is pretty close to the 154 Doo, but it's hard to compare because the chassis' are so different.

The XP is a tough chassis to learn on. If you are not aggressive, I would avoid it. I have known a few people that were not real aggressive and didn't like that chassis. It's a great sled, but you have to use it to like it.

I have the Dragon and love it. It's not as stable as the XP when you hill climb so it's harder to keep a line. But it also side hills a lot eaiser and "turns out" easier. I think the Doo is producing more power, but in the mountains you have to be a good rider to get the power to the ground anyway.

Ride them both and get the one that gives you a bigger grin.

i ride an 08 d7 if i was to go with a n/a sled i would go with the doo a well setup doo vs a well setup poo or cat do will take it everytime on the hill sure it dont handle as good but you will get use to it if your worried bout handleing go with poo or cat

I own both , and some how ride with mostly xp's and rev's I like the D-8 it's different and will all most allways beat a doo in the deep.
The reason I used all most allways is ( more times than not)

SKI-DOO all the way my dad has the xp my bro has the dragon it is a much better sled it is the power house much lighter boondocks much better much better rider position doo has it all the way and that means alot when in on a rmk 600.

Just sold my XP ('08 Everest 154) for a Dragon. The only reason for the swap is because I wanted an EFI turbo.

I have never really understood all of the complaints about the XP being hard to turn over but, I got rid of the swaybar the first day I had the machine. I highly recommend getting an X if you plan on buying the Doo. The Everest shocks are junk especially with the swaybar removed. You will have to upgrade the shocks!!!

Now that I have two riding days on the Dragon ('08 163) I think I still prefer the XP. STOCK for STOCK. I say I think because I felt more comfortable on day two than I did on day one with the dragon.

On my xp I did a clutch kit, timbersled intake and vents. The dragon I will be doing better boards, vents, avid drivers new skid and get rid of the junk series 5.1 track (which polaris has improved). The last three are more so to complement the turbo.

dragon, roll and go chassis is twice as fun to ride. just ask the doo guys after they've followed me for a few miles. they all wish their sleds could do the same...

:Dwish i could get up north some day and show you and whoever up there how these XPs runs in the steep and deep, maybe but not worth the drive for me. i love when my 154 xp out climbs my friends m1000 162 he just dont get it:p. BUT TO EACH THERE OWN. maybe driver but dont think so rode his side by side 1 2 3 go he was :o how his was getting walked over:eek:. sway off and its a different animal...end of story:D stock vs stock. my vote XP out of the box over dragon.

I found it depends on snow conditions(certain types of pow the D-8 hooks very good and will put a hurting on)..most pow it gets it handed to it..change the track and its a new game...

A lot of good answers here, and the solution you should go for is the test of them both.
I have a 07D7 and absolutely love it, it's effortless to ride and takes you places you'd never think you'd go before (I have had some problems getting down from the places I got up:o)
In February I took a trip to your beloved country and rode the XP for 6 days and must say that in a straight line nothing could measure up to this sled, but if I tried to side hill I had to use all of my body to prevent it from tipping over, it seems like it always wanted to have both skis on the ground.
But as stated, this is MY preference.
Good luck with your choice and hope you'll have a great season on whatever you choose:beer;:D
