Studs on 162

I was wondering if anyone has done this. My reason is for insurance when your climbing and hit ice. I was thinking running like 1.25" on a 2.25 track?? And maybe 50 or so?? I would space them so the paddles dont stab them. Let me know what you guys think and what set-up you would try.

honestly, I dont see it being worth it.. for that once in a while, possible benefit, I just feel like I would hate it as I roll over myself, run over rocks/stumps a lot and it would just rape the track, and me.

small screw in style studs in the tips of the paddles would work for that, studs under the paddle length prolly wouldnt do much, and I like to avoid adding rotating weight.

Was pulling a guy out one day that I didn't really know. Pulling on the ski and telling him to keep in it. Then as the track got to my leg I start to think "Man - I hope this guy aint studded up or this is gunna hurt!"

My crew has never ran studs so I didn't give it a thought untill that very second, and pics that were posted on here a few yrs back went through my head real quickly!

Did hit ice as we rolled over the break of the hill in the Snowies several yrs ago in the spring, and studs would have came in handy there as we didn't have nearly enough speed to turn around once we figgered out the issue. But we made it...

I think I'll pass....

yeah.. if you do anything, do sorta like the hillclimb guys do, hexhead sheetmetal screws inthe the spaces between the lug fingers/tips... I would need to know which style track you have to explain.. oh well.

Ya, i ha some same thoughts, just was wondering if anyone has tried it. Iam running a power claw. I may just go the tech screw way to try out. I appreciate the comments. I can't say I hit ice alot but it only takes once. I have seen some good spring wrecks cause of this.

actually there was a filming crew that had tracks that had studs saw them in island park few years back they like to film in the spring with foot of new snow and ice underneath makes for a good video was wondring how they parked on the steep slope when we shot down them later in the day i saw how they did it in one of there first vids you actually see a studded track prob now days tracks are 2.50 ish studs are 1.50 ish an inch diff ? thought about it myself but studs are not long enough and 2.25 stud may rip out of the track just my .02
