If it is the North creek dropping in from west it is a MUTHA dropping in and we had 6 guys that took an hour to drop in there.

it was a good time

looks like beeman plotting one of the many creek jumps yardfarmer.

yes and we were LUCKY. Cause it was a lottery if we would be on wrong side at wrong time we would be faced with 10 plus feet drops into creek. I would not of wanted to be doing this with just two guys that is for sure.

I don't have the GPS coordinates for that area, 7 fools is located east Lake Marie down the draining of French Creek. There are a couple of ways in--one off of trail t off of Libby Flats, the other way is just around the corner from Marie. Like others have stated it can be very unforgiving, it can get very steep and deep. Thus the name of 7 sleds being left in there yeas ago and the folks walking out.

From the avalanche hill at seven fools, were these guys stuck farther south in that drainage area?

Glad to hear you guys are OK, Tog 9, I was the guy talking to ya at the Snowy Mtn. Lodge, while you were warming your feet. Both Kody and Connie are always very helpful

Here are the coordinate of where tog9 and I ended up.

Sled one: N41 19.795 W106 18.762
Sled two and our bed for the night: N41 19.790 W106 18.755

Just south of where the two creeks come together if I am reading mapsource correctly.

Great info. Sorry this sourse of great information had too come from such a bad experience. I am glad it all worked out. We are going to the Snowies on the 24th-30th. Hope too meet you guys, NOT BY SPENDING THE NIGHT IN THE MOUNTAIN OF COURSE!!! You sound like a great group of people.

Which Kody are you talking about little Kody or big Kody?

There's a few good meadows down that drainage on the left side of the creek. Follow the hiking trail down for a ways, you will see these marks on the tree's ( i ).
2 more spent the night in French Creek / seven fools. No way.
Should rename it 100 fools.

Glad you made it out it was a cold sun of a, that day.

Thanks for posting the coordinates. Technology is amazing. Google earth takes you right to the spot where you guys stayed. It's just alot warmer looking at it from my computer room. When you are in terrain and snow like that, 10 feet might as well be a mile. Thanks to your story(you and T9), my sleds are better equipped. I just received my blankets and a few other small items. I don't have a SPOT yet but it is next on the list. I hope the next time I leave the lot, I'm ready to spend the night if necessary. Glad you boys made it in as good of shape as you did. Thanks for telling your story.

All of this shows how dangerous the area can be when unprepared and or lost. What seems like a easy trip in February when the snow is set can be a disaster when one returns in December-January. It was good you went in as a pair, but sometimes another pair is better. Always let someone know (lodgeowner, friends, anybody) the best you can, when you take off. Especially if you know where you are going. I have seen people take off and disappear for the day and night only to find out they had problems and went home without telling friends. Makes searching dangerous for the heros doing it.

I have to dig deep (in my soul) sometimes when I want to go for a "small ride" and leave the trail system. I shed a few tears, leaving the good riding alone because it is too difficult if one gets stuck without the proper gear.

I carry road flares (with a lighter and matches) for fire starting, snowshoes always, and run the GPS when I am unsure. Glad you guys made it out and always proud of the "locals" that always seem to jump in and come to the rescue.

Little Kody I guess, don't know big Kody. Kody from Snowy Mtn sleds rentals is the one that helped us.

I now own a SPOT, flares, better blankets and other survival items.....hope it never happens again but a I am sure prepared if it does.
