Stock Spindles VS Holz 2007 Dragon

HOLZ spindles and SLT's or Powder Pros or Grippers depending on style of riding. Big difference.

I know most of you know this but, for those who don't, it's HOLZ not holTz. I don't know why it bugs me so much but there you go!:beer;:beer;:)

Obviously I'm no genius, but we can all have our peevs right? Sorry fellas!

The stock setup on trails/hardpack/w grippers does have issues. You can correct those without going broke on new spindles. The problem with Polaris spindls is a history lesson too long to go into. in a nut shell they used to put too much pressure on the front of skis and changed that ...opps they over corrected and have too much on the back now. Soooooooo...what you get is a ski that sits on the tail and has most of the carbide in the air. A simple 60-70 dollar fix is longer carbide..6in is good. The stock carbide is junk.

Bergstrom skegs has a carbide for the IQ that not only moves the 6in carbide farther back so you get more carbide where it is in contact with the snow. It is better than just adding longer carbides. Because the carbide on the stock setup camber is tail happy you will see a lot of premature wear on the rudder of the gripper skis. To solve this Bergstrom will include a small "wear or ski saver"..just a piece of polymere that will add to the depth of the rudder. If you wait too long like I did the Grippers or slydogs etc..will have the rudder so dammnn rounded that you can not put on a ski saver. This rounded rudder does not track well and cut into the snow well..especially in the stock spindle configuration.

You can go a couple of different thinknesses deeper with the Bergstrom skisavers. This will solve the darting problem and the ski will be fine. The holtz and other spindles dont give you much bang for the buck..they look cooler..BFD IMHO. you can polish out the stock spindles and then they look cooler if thats all you are after. I just dont throw money to stuff that does minimal and doesnt make things go faster opr run better.

Now with the Simmons..I run them and like them. Because they use different rubbers they sit flatter..they have attempted to compensate for the poor camber of the stock spindles. Take your wearbars off and look at the wear pattern...it is way forward. A small 1/4in shim under the rear of the rubbers will give it the added rear ski pressure it needs..a. 50 cent fix for the simmons.

You cant fix a problem by just throwing money at it...think about what is going on and tune the skis. Most racers tune their skis or at least they used to.

In deep powder it doesnt make a big difference anyway, unless the tip is too heavy..all in all...Keep your tips up i told her!

I've ridden an 05 900 the past few years that started stock the worst spindles of all time and super skinny sidehiller 2's. The steering was difficult, unpredictable, and downright sketchy. Switched over to powder pros and 09 spindles and the difference was night and day, it turned on a dime. Your 07 spindles aren't bad, but I think the 09 spindles mimic the holz's and they might be slightly better, but it won't be a drastic change like the 05 was.

I have an 05 900 that I put Powder Pros on and when I got my 08 D8 I tried putting them on my D8 and they fit REALLY tight and wouldn't move up or down without a lot of force. I called Carl's to buy new saddles but they told me those were the same and maybe the rubber bumpers were different. I bought those and no difference. How did you get yours to work with the 09 spindles? They fit so tight that I have to put a LOT of down pressure just to compress the bumper enough to get the bolt through. There is no geometrical difference between the 08 and the 09 spindle. The Grippers on the 05 were no problem and had too much slop.

600 fusion

newbee on 06 600 fusion

Just put on Bergstrons triple edge 8" skegs, savers and shims best bite of all that I tried so far. little to no darting.. but this does not fix the heavy steer when you push the sled. I agree that the spindles might be the problem looking into 09 or holts.

I put my sled on a set of race car scales and am looking at the weight distbution front to back and the delta on the track(front to back). the front was 51.2%. others sled i checked was 46% (2004 rev 500ss), 2005 pro-x 550 52%. does anyone have any info of this type of approach ????

thanks
