Stock Apex oppinion

I'm in the market for a new sled and can't decide what to get. I'm leaning towards a 2006 or 2007 apex but I don't have the cash to add boost anytime soon. My second choice would be a 2007 summit 800.
I ride eastern Oregon for the most part. I don't like trails and mainly hillclimb and bondock. Most people i talk to say you'll love the sled untill you get stuck and I'm not above getting stuck so I'd like to hear some honest oppinions from people that actually ride "stock" Apexs in the same conditions in ride.

I love mine well most times. great power and handling but they are heavy when stuck ya need good strong friends also setup snow is your enemy on side hills and steep downhills. I ride wit arctic cat m7s and skidoo rev 800 they haven't been anywhere my sled couldn't go. if I had it to do over i wouldnt rule out the new nytro good sled also. overall I'm pretty darn happy with mine :D

same goes for me too...i have a 06..and so far no regrets, dont expect it to climb like a king cat or m1000's, but it will go anywhere a stock 800 will. as far as the weight being a problem, the only time you feel it is on hard pack, it has the tendency to want to go downhill. as far as boost goes i also dont have the $ to do that, so i think im going to maybe put a seat on and just do a turn down on the exhaust and dump it into the tunnel.

hope that helps

Love mine! Stock is great, but minor mods after time are a must. Last year shockwave helix, ported track, and fox floats. Fox floats are a must, haven't played with the helix too much but definitely seems to pull harder, but lost some top end.

This year was pivot riser 3" and Boondockers NOS. Can't wait to try it, one guy has same setup and has dynoed 200 hp on the button. Can't afford turbo so this will have to do for me.

I may sell mine at the end of this season if I see something new come out that I may like.

Ditto...ride nothin but alpine (ok maybe the odd trail with the wife and kids). I ride with 06&07 800 Revs. Who ever has the biggest balls of the day wins a climb. With the same rider the 800 Rev will out climb it but not by a huge margin. great handling in the deep.

They are stupid reliable (belts last forever...I think I've foregotten how to change mine) and built stout (one of the reasons yamis have always been a bit heavy). The a-arms can take quite a tree hit...I've tested mine hard and yet to bust them.

I've yet to need help getting mine unstuck this year (usually it's wrapped around a tree). Your shovel is your friend.

Stock Apex Mt is a great sled. Not the sled to buy if you are a big hotdogger, but if you are a good rider and want consistant, reliable performance you will outlive 3 generations of the others on an Apex and enjoy every minute.

a stock Apex is a sled that does not perform as well as an 800 rev as far as hilclimbing and boondocking.
I had a stock Apex for two seasons and I could not go where my friends would go with their stock 800 revs.
this was tested time and time again.
there are a lot of brand loyal riders here and you'll never get them to admit the truth.
the truth is that a stock Apex is a great sled but not a hillclimber. I would compare it to a 600cc sled as far as hill climbing, and I'm not exaggerating!
for boondocking the Apex is also a poor performer as it is very heavy compared to other sleds.
as far as ride quality and hadeling it is my favorite sled, and with an extra 160 hp it dominates the mountain.

i love stock apexes. if i had a choice i would take a stock apex over my boosted RX1 mountain any day.

he's right. in fact guys all over are taking out their turbo's these days in order to get back that awesome stock ride. how can you beat a 700lb sled with 130 hp?!

Run far away from that 07 hunk of junk Doo. That was the worst year Doo ever had ! You will be so far ahead with an Apex. If you are in virgin deep powder a stock Rev will only get you by a length or two, been there seen it lots depending on snow condition ? Throw a turbo on your Apex and you will be king of the hill compare to your Rev buddies. Apex is reliable, fun to ride, and is a great mod sled performer.

If you buy an apex.. Spend no money on it until you can afford a turbo..

I rode my stock sled for 1 1/2 yrs.. It will climb with all the sleds.. I came off a KK and love the apex.. Yes it is heavy, but what sled is not heavy stuck in the snow.. It won't bog down in deep snow, It wont loose rpm at higher elevations, it has tons of torque.. The only thing is on hard pack snow it wants to go down hill on a side hill..

What are you coming off of??

Wow something was wrong with your sled and i would be the first to admit my apex wasn't a good boon docker or that it was inferior but that just simply isn't the truth. I suppose something could be wrong with the m7 and the 2 800 reves i ride with though

Mine is still stock and its heavy. Its my third yami, best one yet.Every one wants to ride it down the bumped out road! Some day boost will be under the hood.

A well set up Apex with an experienced rider will hang with the revs and tow them out at the end of the day. You are correct that it has great ride quality and handling, but if you are letting the 600's kick your *** you have no business on an Apex. Set it up and learn how to ride it and you will soon find that you are not the weekest member of your group anymore.

i have an 07 apex se that i bought last year when my rmk 800 got destroyed by a tree, at first i was a little reserved and the first 3 or so rides i was not totally convinced, but the more i rode it the more i learned how to ride it and i now love it. you could not pay me to switch back, well maybe if i was actually getting payed to ride i might switch! I ride with another apex , an m8, and an rmk 900, and i can go anywhere anyone else can. it's mostly rider skill that makes the biggest difference anyways, in my opinion. I added a boss seat and under tunnel exhaust this year and cut out a good 31 lbs, and t sleds drop brackets were good for another 7 lbs, it made a pretty big difference, I also raised the bars a couple inches and pushed them foreward, and it made the sled alot easier to throw around, i love to boondock on it. I may turbo it next year, and i might just keep lightening it up, not sure, but it is a damb good sled. very reliable!:)

I just bought an 06 Apex and only have 1 ride on it so far. I came off a 200 hp MM that was lightweighted. TOTALLY different ride and handling. I do miss the light weight. The Apex in the trees is a handfull. It just will not go from side to side as fast as the old sled. The power is nice. The one thing I dont like is the engine braking. I didnt get used to that but maybe after a few more rides. In soft snow when you let off the gas it just about throws you over the handlebars. I do love the fact that you turn the key and it starts and runs perfect all day. I can see how a turbo would make it insane but I dont think it would have helped in the tight trees where we rode that day. It needed a riser to make the bars a little higher. Hopefully I can get out again soon to ride.

I have three rides in on a boosted RXton and I agree with going over the bars in pow. Especially comming down a hill. I have also been dismounted climbing with my thumb slipping off the gas. It breaks so quick its hard to catch. I will admit I am a little rusty, its been a couple years since I have ridden. Still feeling like I am along for the ride.
