Market demand is their reasoning. Same reason a sled costs twice as much in Sweden as it does here. You want it, you pay for it. Simple enough.
Believe me, dealers down in Tampa are fuming.....both, because of dealer costs rising and retails staying the way they are.
However, look at it this way.....you bought an 07 or 08 and want to trade it in or sell it, are you willing to take a bath and give your 13k sled away just to get into a new one? The guys doing this, selling their year old sleds aren't gonna let thier sleds go for 6 or 7 grand when they bought em for 13k. You gotta look at the big picture too.....plus how many of you are actually gonna buy something come spring check? Chances are a lot of this venting is just that.....
I for one, would absolutely take the hit on my 07 in order to bring prices down to where they should be, its got to happen at some point, might as well get it over with. It was my risk to take buying a ski-doo while the dollar was sky rocketing, and I do not expect anyone else to take the fall for it, and any guys who buy sleds every 1 or 2 years have to be willing to take that risk in my opinion.
Its no different than the auto industry, my trucks value has plummeted due to the dollar, and CDN dealers having to get closer to US pricing to compete, so cheaper new vehicles drive down the price of used vehicles, why should this be any different in snowmobiles? In the end the people that win are the ones getting into the sport, and thats what we want to encourage.
there are numerous factors why they are so expensive in Sweden, like shipping costs, duties and taxes, which I would bet could tack on an extra $1500 easy, which Canada does not have to worry about, but in the end your right, if we keep paying it, they will keep charging it, so I will not pay it anymore, I will buy from the US, unfortuneatly its the great dealers up here who did nothing wrong that suffer, but financially a 15%-20% difference is too significant to ignore.
