Steering damper

Installed my damper I got on ebay after fabrication the mount for the fork. Started at two clicks for softest/quickest. Seemed good at start, ended turning two clicks more toward harder/slower, found it to be to slow for the Trails because some counter steering adjustments have to be very quick to keep the bike from sliding out and high siding. So beck two to where I started and I leftit there for the rest of the ride. As I became more and more tired and started to relax my grip I really started to feel the benefits, like I thought signaling to approaching riders was a snap, riding one handed is very easy now.

Still not a cure all for the problem of crossing tracked snow when approaching at a almost parallel low angle. I am convinced the twin axis mount needs to be locked out in these cases so the inside edge of the ski can carve over the track and keep you on line. Now what happen is the twin axis falls away from the direction you want to go and cause the machine to move in a direction opposite you intend. You then need to peel of away from the track and set up at an angle more perpendicular to the track.
I tested this on a narrow trail (10-15 ft wide) with 2 feet of snow and one track, the machine demanded more width to the trail to navigate from side to side of the track. It was all but impossible to follow exactly on top of the track.

All and all worth the money and time for sure!!!

me too have dmapener...

i now have my hawk runnin again and have the steering dampener mounted. rode over 60 miles last nite on mostly hardpack icy trails and the occasional dip into the pow off trail. for the money its a great upgrade especially when the going get rough and rutted and whooped out like always where i ride. i have mine set in the middle and seems to be fine, touch stiff for slow twisty woods but overall a great add on. i noticed a big improvement while riding a farmers field that the tractor drove through and made some deep ruts that criss crossed the trail.

Need pictures

Could the two of you or anyone else for that matter maybe post a picture or two of the dampners installed and explain how you mounted them and the cost of installing.

Thanks
Todd

there are pictures posted earlier in this post.... i got mine on ebay for 70 bucks i think? just know it was way cheaper than my scotts on my crfx...install was about 1/2 hour even with welding and drilling a bolt hole. for the lower part of the post i used the stock nut and the upper i used another nut and bolt, and the tube between them was an unused leaf spring eye bushing center sleeve. then i was out on the trail! sweet.
