Steamboat Riding Areas

Me and some friends are heading out to Steamboat Springs, CO on 2/7/12 for a couple of days and we have never been there before and are not familiar with the area. Does anybody want to give me some riding area suggestions or locations on some secret spots? Thanks for all useful input. BRAAAAPPPP!!!

Well they wouldn't be that secret if we posted them all on here! :face-icon-small-ton

Rabbit Ears is going to be a sure bet but, spend some time in the next few days here in the Colorado section and read all you can about Rabbit Ears (RE) or Buffalo Pass (Buff) and even the Steamboat Lake - Hahns Peak areas.

Incredible riding in all of these locations and incredible danger.....especially this year. Avy danger is extreme and slopes at 20 degrees are sliding.

Read up, come prepared and come mentally prepared to stay off the big hills if need be. It very well may save your life.

What type of riding are you looking for?

The avalanche danger is very high. The snow under the new stuff sucks so slopes are sliding by themselves. There is plenty of snow to ride. You should be able to find some good areas and have fun. Below are links to trail maps for Rabbit Ears/Buff Pass and Steamboat lake. It gives you an idea of the area.

I hope you were joking.

If not, before you head out here you should leave us your names so we know it was you when we read about you in the paper.

There are some locals here giving you free and good advice. Read the writing on the wall and ride safe.

Honestly as far as this year goes, if you are more than an hour away from any of the major riding areas in any part of the rockies, I don't even know why you'd waste the trip.

Togwotee sucked, RE sucked, the snowies sucked, I've had way more fun and saved god only knows how much $$$ so far this year just trail riding around vernal.

RE sucked???

Damn, we thought it was pretty damn good, considering. But that was Saturday.

Why anyone would drive 12+ hours to ride a 6x18 mile plot of land with maybe 36" of snow is beyond me ... they must be far richer and more bored with life than I.

Or maybe they're just not as rude and spoiled as you.. get over it man. Work with what mother nature gives and stop being so negative. Sick of reading everything sucks in every single post. See you out there next week 07M1000. I guess I'm just as bored with life as you are ;)

Yeah sounds good probably going to have to meet at the local watering hole one night and examine the rockies snow compaired to all the white stuff in MN
