Steamboat area - where to camp?

I would like to camp in my pickup camper next weekend and ride trails and off-trail, maybe near Steamboat or Rabbit Ears.
Anyone done this and have a few hints as to where I could park my rig?
Ideally would like to park somewhat near trail system, yet be away from large crowds.

Muddy creek lot allows camping. No power or gas hookup though.
