Stay in McCall this winter

Thanks for offering a good deal Hunter2008! I have stayed there many times. Tough to beat a deal like that, good location and great parking. Walking distance to the Pancake House is nice too!:beer;

rooms available?

Hunter please keep us posted as to "blocks" of dates your getting booked up, may try to come down around jan 21? whenever MLK day (w/e) is not sure of exact date next year it falls on, will try and reserve soon.

thanks, Jeff

Thanks Hunter!!! We are in the big group that comes every mid February to tear it up:beer;
BTW the permits are well worth it when you do have to get on the roads at the end of the day........smooth!

I went to Priest Lake a couple years ago, the Idaho permit was $20 per sled I think, I didn't mind paying the fee, they need the money. The trails were not groomed though, I did go back a second time though. Its bugged me for 10 years that I haven't been back to McCall, I'm going at the end of this month, all I remember is all the trails were smooth freeways.

I'd go to PL again also.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT TO BUY THE NORMAL TRAIL PERMIT! It's 33.50 and if you are riding for more than one day it's very worth it. If I was traveling to another state I would have no problem dropping 35 bucks per sled to have decent trails. Especially since my wife would be with me. Have you ever been on a bad trail with an unhappy lady? Thank you to all in Valley county that make it more enjoyable for us to come up.

You know what is funny - We have ridden in Priest several times and was always told we had to spend the $33.50 on the permit. Fine , if the trails are groomed and it goes to the right causes than whatever.

Then we travel to Sandpoint last year , automatically buy the permits. We ride a few miles outside of Sandpoint and have a lengthy conversation with the USFS ranger. He instructed us that it is not necessary to purchase the permits unless you are going to be there longer than 7 days. He said it depends on the county and how they want to interpret the law , but he did not enforce it in his area. If it is the law than fine , but it sounds like it is a " grey area " at best and is discretionary.

sorry to side-track the post , but I wasn't the first.

I wish all the state's that register snowmobiles would make it the same so we could ride anywhere with one sticker. Then all these whiners that travel state to state would never have to worry or whine again. I know that's not possible but hey a guy can dream. TTT with the thread

fair enough, but the way it works is you need to buy a sticker per state if you unload the sleds from the trailer.

I can tell you with pretty good confidence that Mccall trails will be groomed great. If you bought a sticker for sandpoint, you don't neeed one for mccall. the sticker is good statewide.

but, the 7 day thing is pretty creative, and maybe that guy doesn't write tickets, but everyone else in the state does.

Been going to Island Park for bout 14 years always get a non resident license for IDAHO and Montana.
fuel-$400
food-$400
tags-$55
lodge-$250

I always figure it is a good idea to support the places that cater to snowmobilers,and consider it money well spent.

finerotax, that is how i look at it as well.

if you add in the cost of your truck, sleds, trailer, flowers and wine for the wife when you are gone, presents for the kiddies, increased productivity at work, and the crap we all buy for our sleds every year the stickers at 33 bucks each end up being something like half the cost of a new belt, or about the cost of a gallon of oil, or a third the cost of one my bar tabs.

hmmmmm.......

Just looking for some consistency in the law is all - the law is obviouisly not clear , OR it is , and some counties are taking advantage of us and figure we are none the wiser.:confused:

And yes it adds up when you have a minimum of 3 sleds you pay for.
