Starting to get annoyed with this sled

So new problems today, took my sled out from a heated garage that it was in overnight started up perfectly fine, drove up the road with it on a trailer about 30 miles. Got to the riding spot, went to start it, wouldn't start, wouldn't start, cranked and cranked and cranked. Tried the electric start and pull start equally. Finally after giving it some gas it sorta burbled, and then started, but would not idle unless I had my hand on the throttle, giving it a little bit of gas. After about 10-15 mins of that it was fine and seemed to be fine the rest of the day. Soooooo wtf? Its been fine until this morning, at least in the starting and idle regard so I don't think its the TPS issue. Last night I had it blow a spark plug out of the cylinder while riding, which I replaced with a new one ( just replaced both a couple days ago) So I guess I must not have had it tight enough? Thought it was plenty tight, never had that happen before. Any ideas? Would this leave a code for the dealer to see? I have warranty till I think 2019

Mine did that for the first couple times out. It seems better since the break in is over. If it doesn't start 2nd pull the depress throttle about 1/8 of the way. Should fire right up. If you keep pulling without the throttle depressed it seems to flood. If that happens pull it over with the throttle to the bar. Was disappointed when it happened to my sled, but once you figure it out its really nothing to deal with.

My plugs were loose as well. Not sure if it came that way from the factory or not. I have about 350 miles now. Only other issue is the track wearing badly. This sled kicks *** though. Very happy with its performance.

I had about 300 miles at the time of its little hissy fit, So its out of break in and has never done this till today.
But am I to understand that it was basically flooding? If so thats not a big deal and honestly didn't really occur to me.. idk why, thats a simple durr.

Yes just flooding. The warm shop to outside seems to do it. A few others I ride with do the same.

I hadthis happen once while still in breakin mode, i changed the plugs and the problem went away

Shooting out a plug is a sign of detonation. Sure it never flashed det on the gauge? Youre saying you never had the tps checked after all the suggestions in the other thread?

Not sure which other thread you mean but I had it at the dealer a couple months ago and they checked everything out and said all was well, including the TPS. Like I said, never done that till now. And I don't think it was detonation, it looks like it just backed itself out over the course of a ride after I had changed both plugs. I put antiseize on them and tightened them both down pretty well, if I had to guess I'd say 15-20ft lbs. This time I went and tightened it till the wrench wouldn't turn anymore without some good pressure and then went about another 1/4 turn.

Just because dealer said TPS was fine don't mean anything there digital wrench can't actually check it the correct way but sounds like a flooding issue to me many are having this same problem on the 17s with this this same thing

Interesting. well if it does it again, its gonna go back to the dealer. I don't pay $14k for a sled to have it give me issues, if I wanted that, I'd buy a Cat or used.

Dealer? Your joking right?

I wouldn't bother taking it to any dealer in your neck of the woods. They can't find their own AZZ's with both hands. Much less fix anything.

Sounds like the common flooding issue, hold it to the bar next time to clear it out.

Another possibility is water in the relay that froze keeping the contacts from contacting. Although its not likely that trying to start it, generated enough heat to melt the ice and allow contact, but possible.

Checking / setting the TPS is good practice with or without any decreeable run-ability issues.
The TPS is easy to check if you follow the steps as SRXSRULE (Eric) lays them out in the "TPS check / adjust step by step." Thread.

The Digital Wrench the dealers check it with is the equivalent of a Walmart $2 multimeter and is not accurate enough to check / set the TPS as it needs to be to run correctly. IMO

As for the plug coming out; that is commonly a sign of detonation, but they may have been left too loose from the recent change.

P.S. If / When you are tired of the sled, I'll pay you a grand or two (sight unseen) to take it off your hands. Don't want you pulling your hair out (frustrated) with your purchase.

While I am frustrated, I do love the sled when it runs good. Just lots of little hiccups with this sled that seem kinda petty for a sled this expensive. Then again the ride yesterday 2 of the guys on brand new cats were throwing codes, broke parts, had quite a few issues. At least after mine had the problem starting it was good. Its just frustrating when you pay this much for a sled, you expect it to be a turn key deal. Perhaps I expect too much.

I'm with ya! It is a shame that when everything on the sled is run / monitored electrically; that they source the electrical out to the cheapest bidder (Honeywell in China).

I guess I just need to bite the bullet and start making a aftermarket Arctic quality wiring harness' for them. Using components that have been proven Arctic worthy and reliable in sub-zero harsh climate conditions.

Just not sure how big the demand would be, to justify the capital investment.

I'll take two.

But I love it when it runs good. And so far everything has been getting resolved so that's good. I just get worked up fast. But don't get me wrong I do like this sled. Just hate having problems that screw up good powder days.

lol yea its hard not to get pi$ed when you see a sexy powder day shot because u did not spend Enuf $$$ to buy a good season or two....mabe 20,000.oo $ will do it!! :D naaa their still toys and as long as we demand more we will all ways have problems, but we will all ways work through them and love the days we get! braaaaap happy riding

I think I just have poor luck with sleds haha. I dropped it off earlier at the dealer. I let it warm up to 125f before trying to back it out of the truck onto their ramp and it started spitting and sputtering, then backfired and died, and I think I saw the check engine light for a split second when it did it. Best part was the service writer was right there to witness it. Hoping it comes back like the ripper I know it is!
