Thanks for the pictures. Looks like it was a great day! I was really hoping that I could make it back to Stanley area this year and it didn't pan out. I grew up 30 miles down the Salmon from there and I love the area.
Where did you go? It looks like you were up around the Pole Creek area?

Headleaver, you are correct, we went up Pole Creek, up Washington Lake and out 4 th of July. 10 hour ride, around a 70 mile loop. The first pic to the right and way down is Phyllis lake, if google earth is right and I think that peak is Washington Peak. That is some wild country.

Yes, it is wild country. Growing up, I have fished all but about 10 lakes in the White Clouds. Still try to get back to fish at least 5 or 6 per year. I have never spent any time sledding up there, but I can attest to how steep things are.
With any luck, I am hoping about getting back to Boise in the next, so I can go places that I am familiar with and so there is not so many damn people. Speaking of people, did you run into many other during the trip?

Just me and the 5 other guys that were with me. My group stopped to play when Uphill's crew went by us on the trail Saturday morning. Those guys were the only ones we saw up Pole Creek. In the afternoon we headed up to Headwaters and then up Frenchmans. We rode Frenchmans late afternoon and got first tracks.
We also rode Headwater's on Friday it was our group of 4, and we saw three others all day, got plenty of first tracks with 8-16 inches of new snow. Man I sure like riding on Fridays
Don't get much better than that for the end of March.

Mike, we rode Boulder City on Saturday, and had the same deal. We were the ONLY people in the parking lot at Baker. Not a track. Not even an old track.
Back in 2000 when I lived in Bellevue, there were tracks all over that place on the weekends.

That is a great part of this time of year in the Salmon River area. Most of the locals shift their focus to Steelhead Fishing. It is also far enough from Boise, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, or any other major population areas, that it cuts down on "Killer B's" (no offense, Mike). Wish I could have been out there with you.

Ha, partially correct. Speaking as a 7Cer, The Killer B's are as follows:
1B - Pocatello
4B - Blackfoot
5B - Sun Valley
8B - Idaho Falls
We usually let the 10Bers (Arco) and 6Bers (Idaho City) slide. They are friendly folks, for the most part. The rest we don't see enough of to hate - yet.

Hey Headlever: No offense taken. You hit the nail on the head. That area is awesome riding, and we plan on doing alot more before we tuck the sleds in bed for the summer. We just got 4 new inches at the house here in Hailey last night, and more in the forcast.
That's what I did when I moved down there, but then I went and bought my current truck at Harrison Ford down in Twin. My wife was still a MT resident when we bought it, so we never did have ID plates on that truck. LOL
i put the snowmobile on my plates cause i travel around the state alot.going riding at smiley cr sat the 5th.should still be excellant. last week was just awesome any were you went.did the headwaters bowl to the left 2 weeks ago on a friday. wow was that good. we were the fisrt ones in there and got first tracks for about an hour before someone else showed up.I'm putting off steelhead fishing this weekend cause the riding is still so good. yesterday i played golf at clear lakes and tomorow its himarking some bowls.Maybe steelhead fishing on sunday. Thats southern idaho in the spring at its best. see ya out there. ride hard and scare yourself once in awile.

Spring Riding In Idaho
We were also up there the same Friday. That was a great day, lot's of sun and plenty of good snow. The guy you saw on the Dragon was with us. We stopped for lunch and he just kept on going We will probably head up to Smiley Creek in the morning, look for the white F-350 four door dually pulling the Triton enclosed trailer.

Yha, us 6B'ers are nice people.
Whenever I have to make the trip from Clayton to Boise, I always stop at either Idaho City or Horseshoe Bend to gas up. It is more expensive, but I would rather support these communities.
idaho mike how was it at smiley last saturday. i was there also that day and it was a blast. sure was alot of riders there.all parking lots were full. looked like alot of people going up the headwaters .that might be my last ride . its time to go steelhead fishing. unless we get 30"of snow like northern minnesota did yesterday.

The riding was great. My brother and I took the girls up for a ride, so nothing to wild. We had about 4 inches of new snow from Friday night. With the girls we like to make it fun for them so we rode north and west of Smiley Creek Lodge for a while and then went across the road up towards Pole Creek and south east of the lodge. Nobody was riding these areas so we all got lots of fresh tracks in for the day, and did a lot of playing in the trees.
For those who don't know it this will be the last weekend for Smiley Creek Lodge. After Sunday the 13th, they will close their doors and reopen just before Memorial weekend. I think we will get at least another ride or two in before we call it quits for the year. It sure has been a Good One!!
