Stanley? Pole creek? Smiley creek? Surrounding areas?

Whenever I have to make the trip from Clayton to Boise, I always stop at either Idaho City or Horseshoe Bend to gas up. It is more expensive, but I would rather support these communities.

Funny. My cousin owns and runs the Chevron there in Horseshoe Bend. Great guy- Garth.

Nice pics Scott

Awesome pics. Would love to ride that area this Saturday. If only I could find somebody to ride with? Anybody? Seems nobody wants to show people around. I have a 2004 Ski-Doo 800 144. I have all avalanche gear and started riding four years ago in Alaska. Anybody?

If I was within 300 miles, I would take you up on that invitation. I wanted to get back to the Salmon River this year, and I didn't make it. Oh, well. With any luck I'll be in Boise next year.

If you go, make sure to take pictures and post them here for me.

Relocating

Boise is a nice area. You going to relocate there next year? I live in Mountain Home, which is about 40 miles away. If I get out I'll take pics for ya. Hopefully, I'll get to ride. Take Care

Yeah, I grew up in Clayton and now live in Denver. Quite a change in population! Anyway, the company I currently work for has an office in Boise (both of my sisters also live there) and I am trying to get back there possibly this summer/fall.

Have fun riding.

Scott,
Personally, not that I have heard. However, taking a look at the Smiley Creek Web cam this weekend, there were a couple of fresh tracks down the airport runway.

The snow is pretty much gone in town, but it has still been freezing hard ever night, so it is checking the snomelt. In fact, high water really has not even started yet. My parents went to Boise this weekend and said that there is still around 4 feet on Banner Summit.

I'm still riding up there. About 10 days ago we got into over a foot of powder in the bowls, last weekend it was gone. Still plenty of snow, but no powder. Been too warm. Found good riding yesterday and the day before, at least for a few more weeks. You just gotta get up in there pretty high. I've got some pictures I'll get uploaded and post if anyone wants to see them.

Skidoogirl,
Hell, yes I want to see pictures. Especially, if it is from God's country.

Actually, I am just envious because my sled got exactly 0 miles on it this year. Sad to say but this Stanley post is the closest thing I got to snowmobiling this year.

Yeah, that is quite sad.

BTW, let's see the web cam link.

When I came home from Ketchum on Easter Sunday, the snowline was down stream from Stanley...almost to Sunbeam.

Ok here's a few pics. My brother has some of me and some better ones, I just got a few. Too busy playin.
This was like a big playground for me. Not too major of climbs and lots of snow. It was my first weekend out after cutting off sway bar, I wish I'd done it months ago! We're going into Grand Prize tomorrow and this weekend, that is if I can make it. Some steep chutes to climb I guess to get there and to get out. 0 miles?! Are you going crazy yet? I didn't get much as my sled was wrecked for about a month. Got about 560 miles. I'm not really experienced but I've learned a lot in those miles, and hit a lot of trees.

These were about 10 days ago when there was still powder in these bowls. Fun places.

If it was not for you, rotaxhippy, Scott and others posting pics and reports, yes, I would have likely gone crazy. Thanks for the therapy!:beer;

Very nice pics.

I wish I could have explored more of the Smiley area when Iived down there in 99/00.

Went up Vienna Mines road to a gate that you could go through...but I didn't follow the tracks past the "no trespassing or you'll be shot" sign.

I went up the Salmon headwaters to the divide a few times. Loved it up there.
I went up Pole Creek once, but the road was SO bad that we couldn't get the women to do more than about 1/2 of that.
edit: in fact, the 3rd bowl to the right is where I'd gone many times that year.

I've got many pics of that bowl...that was the first big bowl that I'd ever hit down in that country...except for the big open hills behind grain fields between Woodside RV and the grocery store in Bellevue (what was that called (Valley Market?)

I am going to dig out a bunch of pics from Salmon headwaters and post them...LOL good times.
