Stacking hay

That is like 3720 tons of hay, you must have one giant operation!!!

its my friend's dads place. both places are HUGE with THICK as hell hay! we run 4 balers (2 new john deeres and 2 old new holland bar balers) this year we have only been runnin 3 and i raking it all and they run 2 new 4995 John Deere rotary swathers so we cut some hay and bale it like none other. we had a ****ty hay crop this year too. fertilizer guys screwed up BIG TIME so we were about 500 short at the first place we were at! i might get on google and put up a link. they took a pic while we were workin! lol

so I know nothing about hay, other then I'm glad I don't. How many bales make up a ton, and how do you figure how much hay you need?

As far as what's needed for a ton depends on the size and weight of the bales. My alfalfa hay averaged 67 lbs p/ bale, thus 30 bales p/ ton. Where as my grass hay was 55 lbs p/ bale thus 36 bales p/ ton.

Around here we figure 2-3 ton per animal per/year. I am prolly going to end up with 2 ton extra, but if we have a winter like last yr, I'll end up using that and maybe needing more.

hay around here's been runnin 90 to 100 a ton in the field, we put up a hundred bales or so at the home place and they are talking about lettin some crp hay out, hay wasn't much here but it was so cool so long that when it warmed up the hay just headed and gave up

lol around here you could steal alot of square bales! a guy who lives here hays about 20 miles total of barrow pit lol. it might have alot of busch light cans and 30 rack boxes in it but it would be free lol. just drive down the road and pick em up lol. we baled the ditch a week ago and one of my friends acidently baled up an inner tube on accident! lol it was sticking out the side of the bale and our boss saw it and was like what the hell is that so we told him what it was and that there was beer and pizza in there too and he just laughed lol. oh ya....we made another 320 round bales again today....still got about another 2500 acres to go too.

and highline where do you get all those awsome avitar pics lol!???? i need to get me one of them! ha ha ha

Glad I don't buy hay from you fellas:confused: I personally don't want trash in my horses feed, or my parents cattle feed. Things like that might seem funny, but, the vet bills and such, aren't a laughing matter. I would rather pay the extra $ for GOOD QUALITY hay, than pay for baled up trash.

Not trying to stir the pot, but that boarders along the lines of shaddy dealers telling you need to pay $200 for hi-faxes when you took you sled in for a simple carb job. Just my .01c

Just to get back on track,...... how's the stack lookin Burndown? How much ya stackin and so on............? I'll post pics tomorrow of my "stack of cash"!!

damn hayburners are fun for the summer, but, dang they suck in the winter:) Same as sleds, used seasonally, but cost you a mother load ALL year long.:D

we normaly clean the ditch every year but we forgot to this year. they wont sell the road hay. they just cut it and bale it just to clen up the ditch cause the grass is so tall and there are a lot of dear runnin around out there. as far as the other guy goes he keeps it all....i think he has some horses but i would hate to eat trash too...but he is OLD and CRAZY lol.

one thing i DONT miss...

growin up in se. Iowa/ne.Mo. i sure dont miss buckin bales in 95 degree heat with 100% humidity. good thing i was young then, no way i could go back there and do it now. my dad has gotten smarter too, now he bales it and has a couple of amish guys that live on our farm pick up and stack all the small square bales. helps a lot.

We used to do the small bales when I was young, started out running the tractor running the derrick, moved to rolling bales and then driving the truck with the side loader. We then got a self propelled bale wagon and went from a 8 man crew to 5. Finally went to the one ton bales and went from the crew of 5 to just me and my dad and brother. Sure don't miss those younger days with the exception of being in super shape.
