I was told when wanting to buy a spot messenger that the company was in financial trouble do to couple of downed satellites and another company called Delorme is going to pick up the same technology but use military satellites. Has anybody else heard of this??

News to me.
If so, doesn't make sense for them to be rolling out all these new products right now?

I agree. I tried doing some searching around to see if I could find anything to verify this and came up with nothing. Just the new satellite phone and the new Spot Gen3. New products don't usually mesh with a company that is having financial problems.

And they just released this new device on Friday

SPOT was bought by Globalstar which had been the weakest of 3 major satellite companies (Iridium and Inmarsat) but have slowly been getting better and digging out from some issues. Launched some new satellites this summer and publically traded company if want to research.

This sounds close to what was being explained to me. Delorme was the other company I was told to check out thanks much, ok research time

Thanks for this information. Hopefully everything works out in the end as the Spot products are very nice to have.

Delorme and spot

Here's some info Delorme pn-60w gps and spot together in one unit. Nice combination. Check it out just search Delorme

So far I have not been able to find anything that suggests SPOT has fallen on hard times financially.

FYI to compare coverages, Spot is on globalstar, and delorme is on iridium.

I think someone just got confused about two competing products.

I switched from spot to delorme (inreach) lat year & feel it's a notably better product, but either is an improvement on nothing :D
