Spare belt holder

I noticed that if you put your spare belt in the bracket that keeps the clutch side side panel out about 1/2" further than the exhaust side panel. I had to drill the rivets out and redrill new holes in the belt hold down bracket an move it in about 3/8" to get the side panel to close properly. any body esle notice this?

Ops.. Sorry for bad rep dang phones!!!

word is that if you zip tie both ends tight you wouldn't have this problem..

It works!!!

Mine did the same things I plan on moving the bracket in like you or to the exhaust side some where.

If you tuck both ends of the belt behind the little plastic tabs coming off the hood you wont have this problem. At least mine doesn't

Put mine behind the tabs, put on the zip ties, next step is to move the bracket. If this does not work I was also thinking about getting a set of cowling rubber straps PN 5438262 (STRAP-RUBBER 57MM) and a stud (did not look up a part #) to pull it closed over the top. I had to do this on the GEN II. Will not be happy but I prefer a 3.00 part and some ugly to a burnt $175.00 belt.

What he said. I didn't zip tie though. If you just looks the held into a "u" ish shape and line up the cogs it will stay when you put it in.

It is there and stays but I am still not getting the top leading edge to close 100%. I have a gap that is 3/8's wider than with the belt out. I like my stuff perfect so when I hit a stump it all crinkles together nicely. It is barely noticeable but I was thinking that the light fluffy stuff might cause an issue on that side.

on mine I use a wire tie at each end..that did the trick..but I also have a second belt wire tied in the same place on the mag side..(long story but we always carry at least 2 spares..)both panels fit good, have had zero issues with either belt getting damaged in any way...

I have noticed that my side panel stock vent clip had been wearing into the O.D. of my belt. Not sure if anybody else noticed theirs. Not horrible, but noticable on a $180 belt.

Me too. I ended up trimming that one tab (inside - on the side panel vent) that was rubbing on the outside of the belt down about 1/8" - 1/4", so that the metal clip would slide down lower on the tab. I think i even faced the metal clip the other direction to allow for more clearance . . . problem solved.

Pics possible?

So I went tot he shop and decided to fix my damn belt holder. Before I drilled rives and remounted I wanted to see what the problem was exactly. I spent a while looking, moving the belt closing the panel, checking clearances, feeling for drag ect. I took the belt out and the problemn was the same. Now i am perplexed, if it is not the belt what is it. I found that the top vent closest to the seat (Black Plastic) was hitting the cap on the oil res. There are fins that protrude down from the vent opening angle towards the front of the sled. This fin is rubbing the cap and could be trimmed or even removed but it is directly above the clutch. This is the reason the panel has poor panel fitment not the spare belt. I do not want pow droping down on my belt so I may remove this last fin and put some mesh over the entire opening to keep snow out, I have not decided yet. I may let it be, but this is weating at me, I obsess a bit. Let me know if any of you find this to be the issue, if so I will share my fix with pictures.

Is there a gap at the nose of the hood between the bellypan and the hood? Does the front of the hood feel like it isn't attached to anything? If the answer is yes, then I know what your problem is. Your hood is not on properly and then your panels will have a gap. I can tell you how to put the hood on correctly if that is the issue.

This is a bit hard to see in the pix. Hope its helpful. I ended up trimming all but one of the tabs down a little so the vent would not rattle.
In the pic that shows the whole vent, the tab/metal clip that hits the belt is the one on the upper right. Oh...and i also heated and bent the black plastic part (on the vent itself) a bit so it would let the clip ride even lower on the remaining part of the tab i had cut down.

Cheers!

I never thought of that, I will check it.

Good find on the tabs rubbing, my wife's is the same. One thing that bothers me tho is after cleaning the clutches, washing the belts and then storing them exposed under the hood to collect all sorts of crap. I prefer to keep my spare belt(s) in the tunnel bag I installed under the back of the seat.

I tried the feeble beltholder and just ended up puting the belt in my rear tunnel bag.Kinda lame on a new sled
no real decent place for a belt and plugs. The old IQ sled had great belt and plug storage
