Here is the skinny,
to the best of my knowledge...
They are under a new manager again for the `100th time!!
I don't know y they would close the south trail system either that is where some of the best snow is!!!
The ski lodge is the only lodge that may be open for the season. There have been advertisements on their website for season tickets etc. The USFS pulled the permits for the other two lodges due to issues with WYDEQ, EPA, and USFS rule infractions, etc. There is not a new manager for Deerhaven and Meadowlark; only a site manager to watch the properties.
The south trail systems has absolutley NOTHING to do with the lodges, so it should not be affected. As a matter of fact, I believe they have hired the trail groomer for the season
They were up for auction a few weeks ago, the auction got cancelled, and no one really knows what is going to happen. The FS is watching them like hawks, and I do believe they have to have a BUNCH of work done before they can open for public. This will take time and I doubt it will be done before winter time!!
The lodges themselves were not up for auction. There was an auction scheduled to liquidate lodge assets and property to fulfill outstanding financial obligations, but was cancelled for unknown reasons. Yes, there is much to do to be ready to open; not the least of which includes having a functional sewer system.
The Washakie County Commissioners have taken a request under advisement to step in and try to recover the permits for the betterment of the county, but there has been no further duscussion on the matter.
Personally, I prefer they are closed. I would much rather go without, than pay a premium for sub-par facilities.
As a side note, I prefer the south end too... I grew up here. Tensleep and Buffalo are not that far away. It's no different than sleddin' in Togwotee all day, and spending the night in Dubois every night... 'cept maybe........... snow depth
