I'll let you know. I'm six weeks out on number one myself. So far wifes in good shape and no trouble. Hope delivery goes this smooth. I kind of get the deer in the headlights look every once in a while, but then I think about all the dumaases and idiots I know that have kids and figure I pretty well equipped to be a Dad.:eek:

Advice! HA HA! save as much $$$ as possible and know its not enough, Enjoy slepping while it lasts . It will be a big change but one that you will not regret for one second.

ya, no sleep for at least the next 1.5 years. You will cherish every moment with them, even when they turn 3 and develop an attitude! I love coming home and hearing my name being screamed as I walk up the stairs.

Been trying to figure out the best way to put this and it might sound weird.......what am I thinking this is SW. Get ready for some of the best times ever in the sack for the next few months. :D

Advice? Spoil the kid with your time. Enjoy every minute. Seems like yesterday my first came along, now he's 24, out of college & working for Haliburton.

Yep, Sidehiller is spot on on this one. Figure out a way to balance work with kid time. The most important investment you can make with your time. Too many parents spend way to much $ and way too little time.

Oh, and did I mention? CONGRATULATIONS DAD! :beer;

My only piece of advice for the first year is Breastfeed. Its good for the baby and more importantly it is good for you, LOL ! Sleep easy !

Put in the time, get ready for no sleep. throw away all the books your wife bought. This is not rocket science its being a dad. Do what worked with you and your dad, avoid what didnt. Take the time, once your heard is built to get to know all your kids. They dont all respond to discipline the same;) Congrats:beer;:beer;

CONGRATS! You've just taken one of the biggest & most rewarding jobs a man could ever take. Follow your heart & your head-they'll never lead you down the wrong path.

Oh & make sure it's yours:D Just kidding man! You've got a lot to look forward to. Don't Blink-it goes fast.

Duddin,

Congrats, Raising kids demands alot of resposibility and unselfishness. My sled time went down by about 80% because I CHOSE to spend my time differently. Finances were tight, but I got by, We sledded together as a family when my kids were 3 weeks old. It has been different enjoying sledding as a family rather than as a shredding highmarking boondocking fool (I still do it, just not on a regular basis) but even though my buddies are updating their equipment and still going out every weekend, I know that it is more important to be a father and give time to my wife too. We were blessed with the ability to build a new home, so our finances became focused on other projects. Fortunately I was still able to ride.
Women can get homebound with young children, make sure to give them opportunity to enjoy their lives with their friends (girls night out). Now my 2 kids (25 mo. apart) (Got R Done) are older and begining to enjoy driving one of the sleds.
That is what it is all about. Soon I get a vasectomy and after that comes a new sled.

Any one know how long it should take before I can go riding after a vasectomy?

We had our first a little over a week ago. Get plenty of sleep and love em to death.

I was freakin out too, but now roles have switched. I am cool calm and collected and my wife freaks out.

Also if they have a class at a local hospital, take it. It sounds stupid, and at the time I thought it was a waste. Now, looking back I learned a lot of things from it.

I now cant wait for the days of sleddin as a family, hanging out on the farm, and other family activities... its an exciting time.

1st Kid

Duddin- Congrats and I am glad you posted this because my wife and I are in the same boat. End of June and we will have a new baby girl! I am like you freaking out!

Its not as scary as I thought it would be, Mine turned 1 yesterday and reel fun now, Good luck and Congrats:beer;

Ha! There's wisdom in these words!

Have you ever tried to get yourfeet under you after jumping out of a vehicle at highway speeds? This is the change you are about to have. You go from a life of doing what ever to having a baby depending on you for everything. Worth it? Definitely! My kids are two and eight months and today they drove my wife crazy while I was at work.

I love being a dad. Babies are alot of work, the first 6 months they eat, sleep, poop and cry. Then they show their personalities, laughing, first words, crawling and walking...becoming little people.

Spend as much time as you can with your family and give the wife all the help she needs, even a break when she needs it....so when you do want to head out for a little sled trip she'll want to reward you for the help and giving her a break!

Congratulations!

fyi..diapers stink more once boob food is replaced by real food.

I take it, its too late too run like hell. No Congrats..

Just be there, thats whats most important..
