The sad part is we have the oil and the means to get it.
We could cut off all oil imports in less than a year without a problem.
Now the rub.
If we did that, it would crash the price of oil bigtime.
So what?
Right?
Oil is the only source of income for most of those countries. A lot of politicians want to wean them off oil and into other things a little at a time. The politicians are afraid that there would be huge riots and the terrorist would esenctially take over the middle east.
The problem with that is also simple.
As long as we refuse to produce our own oil, there is no incentive for those countries to change course.
I say, pump it ourselves and shut down imports.

Some of us actually took an oath to uphold the Constitution against ALL enemies both internal and external. If I see someone breaching the constitution, they become the enemy of the U.S..
Obama is doing JUST that.

Correct, However, we also get a large amount of Oil from South america.
If we stop buying oil, that oil being pumped doesn't just go away. The people pumping it will want to sell it someplace else. This will have the EXACT same affect as if we were buying all our oil from the middle east. The oil exporters will have to drop their prices in order to sell the oil.
