Greetings!

Ok, a group of us from Michigan are planning to head out in late February 2011, and one of the guys planning this has already been in contact with the lodge in the last week. They are really trying to push an all inclusive deal with breakfast/dinner and I think a guide for like $1000.00 per person for the week. Keep in mind this does not include the charge for the room. Has anyone done the all inclusive....do you think it is at all worth it? I dont think I could possibly eat and drink that much per day to justify this, but the guide makes it interesting.

Are there independent guides that we can hire while we are there? Any suggestions for a guide we can use and Aprox cost per day? Do you need a guide everyday you are there?

This is our first big trip out West (I have rented and rode in Squamish, BC but never trailed out west before), so please bear with me on all the questions! I really appreciate any feedback on this, as I want to make this trip as smooth as possible for all those going.

Thanks,

John

How many guys?

So you're looking at $142 a day for food & guide? Seems somewhat reasonable if you've got a smaller group (like 3 guys). What would you be paying for a guide otherwise for your group? If you've got 10 people, then you're paying about 1000 a day for guiding... (if you figure that price is $100 for guide, and $42 for food)

Unless you're a big boozer I can't see that being worth it.

My take, I'd do 3-4 days with a guide then go on your own. I can't see myself spending $40 or more for food a day on a sled trip, but I'm a cheap bastard!!!

I have yet to spend more than a $1000 for 7 days of riding. That includes, lodging, gas for the truck & sled, food, & permit for riding out there. I am also a tight wad when it comes to these trips. I am on a budget. I look for cheaper lodging & like to get a cabin with a kitchen so I can bring my own food. Maybe go out to eat once at night.

john, the all inclusive at tog includes the room. you get to check in, stash your gear, happy hour from 530-700 (well drinks and horsdoeuvres), then dinner, sleep in the room or cabin (lodge rooms mean no long walks, or rides in the am or evening to your room), breakfast buffet, your guide for the day too.

then you get to do it all over again. early and late season. it usually is about 120 per person per day. in season it is 140-160 per person per day. but it includes everything including the room, plus discount on rentals if you have a boo boo, gas, convenience store, and pro shop discounts too.

sign up for the guide well in advance and try to get them for the whole week. carter, noah, brent, justin, ryan ect....

we have been going for the past several years at xmas/new year and will be making the pilgramige back out again this winter. great place to ride. dont book now unless they give you some super fantastic summer early sign up deal. last year they ran a 25%off for snowest members in season.

pm me if you have any more questions.

if you think about it, you buy, dinner, then pay for the room, then buy breakfast... then you have to pay for the guide seperatlely if you are not on the package. the guide fee is like 45-60 per person per day plus you should tip them for a good day. so the package is the way to go for people who need guides.

for guys and gals that have been there a bunch, or know locals that might take them around for beer money, the package may not be what you want.

but for us, the last thing i want to do is cheap out, and then have to make my own meals, clean dishes ect... before and after riding all day.

John, I've been following Chris's thread on the johndee.com site. You guys have to call the lodge directly, give Pat (Firecatguy) some time to get a hold of Carter. You don't have to book right now. I waited until January the last time we went, to book for the end of Feb. There is NO WAY the all inclusive does not include the room, or the cabin, depending on which one you choose. Both time I have been out there the inclusive included the room, we stayed up at the lodge. The first year we wnet out, we didn't do the guide thing, the second time we did. I reccomend getting a guide since it is your first time out. TIP THEM WELL! My brother and I each tipped 25 bucks a day, and we paid him, Nate, and the end of the week. Matter of fact our whole group tipped 25 bucks a day, and we had him from Sunday till Thursday.

By the way, I like beer just as much as the next guy, but after riding hard at elevation all day, I usually can drink a pitcher at happy hour, then eat dinner, and then it is straight to bed, I am whipped! LOL.

I have been out there 3 times now have went with the all inclusive deal every time. I think you can do it a little cheaper if you need or want but its nice having the guide every day never have to worry about getting lost or riding others tracks. There is some perks like mentioned berfore disc at fuel pump and gift/clothing shop. They had great food the last time I was there but high priced if not on the plan. If I go this year it will be on the plan I think it is worth it.

Thanks for all the replies fellas!

I did just got an email late this afternoon from one of the guys in our group that had some clarification about the all inclusive.....Yes it does include the room and the price he got was much better when it was all broken down with 4 guys. I do remember last year they ran some deals, so we will just have to see how it goes. I know we are all very excited!

Again, thank you all for your input!

John

bring a camera with lots of memory cards, and take ALOT of pics! take an afternoon, and run into jackson as well, fun little town to hang out in. the views up and down the valley from the lodge to jackson are incredible. ski

Everything he said down to the tee! You can do cheaper trips, but the Togowtee experience is like a vacation... you just follow the guide he digs you out and no worries. Almost every day find you good snow. You will love it!
