some clutch problems?

so i had someone tell me that the belt should be 20 thousandths from your primary clutch just sitting there. i have like a 1/8th inch gap. ive noticed with other sleds, they engage smothly, and mine just revs and when the engagment rpm hits, it slams the clutch into the belt and its really jerky and annoying. can a person shim the primay? oh and i tried my spair belt and its the same thing too so its not the belt.

Put the sled up on a stand. Adjust the belt until the track just starts to creep. That's your best deflection.

The clutch engaging roughly sounds like something in the clutch is stuck. Take it apart and clean it, check for worn, loose, cracked, binding parts.
