Solution to no pack

If you are wearing a Tec vest, even a bigger pack isn't too bad. I have a bad back and even with an ABS 30 I can make it through the day.

I would agree, I wear a tekvest and a BCA Float 30 all day long with no issues.

The tekvest distributes the weight of the pack across your upper body instead just your back and shoulders.

As far as smaller packs, I also have a Klim Nac pack. Nice nice pack that will carry the essentials and is very comfortable with or without a tekvest.

I always ride with a 25+ lbs pack. I usually have all my tools (ratchet wrenches, sockets and rivers and a couple of extenstions, spark plugs, spare water pump belts, spring puller, air shock pump, jet board, leatherman, screwdrivers, water, milk, mtn doo, DSLR camera, fire starter, emergency first aid kit, candy bars, sammich...spare socks, hat, spare goggles, hat, shovel and probe.

I'm only 145lbs on a heavy day. I just man up and wear it. That's riding.

I really don't notice it when I'm riding. My pack is only heavy when I put it on or take it off.

I figure if I get stuck I'll be setting my pack in the snow. That's 25+ pounds that's not attached to the sled when getting unstuck.

Scott, your pack sounds like mine...I wear a pack if I'm mountain biking, motorcycling, snowboarding or just hiking. Being a Snowboard Ski Patrol I tend to carry extra all the time. http://www.mhallmtbsnow.blogspot.com/search/label/Dakine%20Poacher%20Pack

When I first stated snowmobiling in the mountains nobody in the groups used a pack. Whatever they could fit under the seat, that was it. Now they all wear a pack and carry a shovel, some snacks and a few extras.

A good quality pack is hardly noticeable if you keep it light( mine isn't light...). Kinda like when I started wearing a protective vest, don't notice it anymore.

I'll have to weigh mine from this past Sunday.
By the end of the day I also had my snow pants, jacket, Summer Sucks Jersey, and a Klim Summit fleece shirt...AND a Sitka merino wool 1/4 zip shirt. LMFAO.

I'll put it back together and weigh it.

Sounds like you just need a better pack.

I've had a bunch of them over the years & some have really not worked well.

I just went from a 15L to a 5L

At very least, get a good pack that you can keep your avy gear & survival stuff in & then you can store the rest in the seat or on the tunnel... whichever.

i use mountain addiction system for everything except shovel and probe, i keep those in my avy vest,,, very comfortable, ive loaded it up as well with a lot of weight, very comfortable and with just the shovel and probe in it i dont even know it is their...
the best system i have found by far....
i also wear armour as well, and its comfy with it as well.....

i will never go back to a backpack again....

I have used a Snowpulse Avy Vest all year. Loaded up with GPS/radio and mic, Avy, survival and first aid gear it is 20-25lbs. Feels really heavy picking it up but the vest spreads the load and normal riding I don't really feel it until the end of the day. Last couple of rides I pull it off when we get out of the hills and put it on the tunnel rack for the 10-20 mile whooped out un-groomed trail ride to the truck. I have the armor installed in the vest so it serves multiple purposes. Avy bag, storage of my essential gear and protection of my body. I no longer carry water, or tools in the bag. I put a Camelback on my riser bag and that works really well too and stash tools on the sled.

wow that snowpulse avy vest looks nice
where'd you buy from? good deal?
where do you put your beacon now?
I'll be going out west quite a bit more this year..with my lack of experience this is a neccesity along with avy classes

Wear your shovel as a pack with probe taped to it.
Most shovels have 2 holes on the blade so that you tie string to each one and attatch it to the D handle.
That is how ski patrol rolls a lot of the time.
