Solution to no pack

Hey,

Well I ride with a backpack currently and really dont like it. I can feel the extra weight on me and it just bothers me. Makes it hard to move around and such. I was looking to a good alternative to not wearing a pack. Good rear tunnel bag/case? Anyone got some good options?

Thanks

Find a way to stash all your other gear on your sled and then wear the smallest pack possible with just a shovel and probe in it. You won't even know its there since its so light, but it could save your buddies life some day.

I know how you feel. I had a avy pack the larger one a couple years back and when I got all what I felt was needed in the back by the end of the day my shoulders were burning. It truely was ruining my sled experience. I put a large tunnel bag on and moved alot of my weight to it. It has been so much nicer now. I cant remember who made the bag but I bought it from sled solutions.

I wear an HMK backpack and like it most comfortable pack I have owned, I have what I think Lots of survival supplies, smaller aluminum shovel with seperate handle, Ponchos, some food, drink, firstaid kit, small sterno stove, glowsticks, headlamps etc.. and firestarting and much other stuff and carry my towing and sled tools and sled repair supplies a snowbungie rattler and extra gloves and goggles and other Another! normal size sledding shovel for digging and getting unstuck seperately in my sleds tunnel bag.

I carry my emergency Whistle w/ small compass, beenie hat, neckie and balaclavas in my Jacket and warm rubberized (work on the sled gloves) in my Bibs pockets.

what if your out in the back country and you loose your sled off the hill or cliff and it plumets to the bottom of the canyon and your standing there realizing all you survival gear and Backpack are or is on the back of that sled you can`t get to now, now what you going to do about possible spend night in the woods and you don`t have anything on your person. Doesn`t make sence to me.

Ya that Klim pack is cool, I almost purchased on of those was called a Nak Pak, I just wanted more storage.

Good Luck, Wildcard

they have a hardside case that mounts on the tunnel and stays dry inside unlike the soft side bags

If you are wearing a Tec vest, even a bigger pack isn't too bad. I have a bad back and even with an ABS 30 I can make it through the day.

GREAT points, WC. I know of someone last year who was separated from his group and got caught in an avalanche and ended up with his sled buried. At the very minimum, other than avy gear, you should keep a first aid kit, firestarter, saw, and other basic survival essential on your person. It may even be smart to double up on that stuff. I may do that next year.

I wear a tekvest yes, but just moving around is a crappy deal. Jumping from side to side and whatnot.

I have been really happy with this bag

I ride with this and its great but it definately did not stay dry on the inside on the 40-50 degree spring ride....when i talked to them its not designed to be water tight...close but not water tight...and $$$$$

Just man up and use the weight of a pack to your advantage. My ABS 15 weighs a ton. Don't know I even have it on. I do notice when I don't though.

I have one of these two. For the backpack, took a Camelback basic hydro pack only and made a holder for my shovel out of some 1/8" UHMW sheet and velcro. Lightest set I could come up with. Don't even know it's there and as the water gets drank, it gets lighter. The down side is it doesn't replace a ABS.

Below is my wonderful model wearing this redneck engineered item....

I notice this too. I have to carry my tools and spare belt in my pack(ABS15). Plus my lunch, and a couple bottles of water. I have been meaning to weigh it, ready to ride. I bet it is close to 20 pounds? Just throwing a number out there. But yeah its really heavy, but I only notice when I take it off!
