So, who blew up their D8 this weekend?

first post huh do you ride ski doo or ac? yep i guess they go down but mine hasnt in over 2900 miles. i wouldnt normally post to these but i guess both of us have nothing better to do after riding.

Yea Idiots - you are right. First post. I started Polaris in 78 with a TXL340, then a Indy 500 Centurion (one of 62 in 1981 that went to the western states. Then a 83 Indy 600 (yea Crank problems) then a 85 600, 86 600 a 89 650, a RXL 650 (first fuel injection- still have my selectmonitor tool)then a 91 650. Rode the 91 until until 2003 bought a 800 Pro-XR (more crank problems), the a 05 440IQ. Sat out the 900 POS. I am wanting a new Polaris (thats all I ever had) but after watching the D8 crap for the last 3 years, I am really looking hard at a M1000

Polaris has totally disappointed me in the last three years and no one seems to give me any not to go green

good for you your looking hard at an m1000...i hope it serves you well...now rather than wasting yours and our time here in the IQ section and bashing on polaris why dont you go to the m series section and talk to people over there and actually use the forum the way it is supposed to be used.

snowest is an extremely useful tool but its people like you who probably only join just to talk trash at polaris owners. sure you probably have had bad luck with polaris in the past...i dont deny that...but there are just as many people who have had problems with all other brands.

no matter how you look at it all brands have their good and bad. but at the end of the day we are all just people who love snowmobiling and it doesnt matter what you ride as long as you have fun. thats all that matters at the end of the day.

grow up

Kinda hard on him aren't you guys? I did just see a new post about an assult that went down. He might be having some fun at our expense, but he isn't completely out of line.

GasGas300 obviously has a very nice bike. Probably has some pretty high standards. Let's give him a chance. I'm willing to let him into the club.
Oh, and if you go with the Cat. You want the 800 not the 1000. That motor is unreal.

Plus it sounds like Doo and Cat should have new platforms next year. Polaris owns the snow this year with the Pro and the new 800 seems to be proving more reliable than what we have. Next year could get real exciting.

I think that GasGas300 was just more or less venting to let off a little steam. I for one wouldn't want to be stuck at the bottom of a valley having to figure out how to get a sled out of the back country. The thought is always in the back of my mind.

not trying to poke the beehive here, but I am just disatisfied with what Polaris has to offer and how they have been dealing with their problems for the last 10 years - starting with the off spec cases and cranks on the 800 big block and now it sounds like they have cylinder clearance problems that are un resolved year after year.

I love their handling, but don't want to worry about making it back to the truck everytime I go out. I want to stick with Polaris, but with all the problems I am hearing, and witnessing first hand (08 Assault - 200 miles after the update blows up - ruins cases, cyl, crank) I am questioning why? Things must be bad when people are calling for class action lawsuits.

Polaris devotes too many of their resources to the ATVs and motorcycles and have neglected their roots.

Is the 2011 fixed? Time will tell. I hope it is, but it should of been fixed on 2009.

I enjoyed my 09 D8 which worked and ran flawlessly all of last week and this last week end. I could use some track shock upgades though?

SkiBreeze's went down again this weekend. This time it was the PTO end of the crank.....and wouldn't you know it......... No parts available. Must buy a new one from PoPo.

Dragon Down!

We had a cold snap a couple weeks ago. I live between 2 Poo dealerships. The one to the North had 5 pukers come in and the one to the South had 4. Not bad for one weekend. I love my 800, but it worries me to see these sleds come rolling in. I am so glad that the PRO is working for Polaris. I have ridden Poo since my 93 500 EFI SKS. I tried Cat the first year of the M8 and was dissapointed in the power of the sled and went back to Poo. I have had both of these dealerships (Woodside Motorsports in Hailey, ID and Action Cycles n Sleds in Twin Falls, ID)stand behind me for years. I stay with Polaris because of this. YES, I have been frustrated with my D8 and the 3 burn downs, along with 2 burndowns with an 08 700 (whodathunkit) Each time I was taken care of and sent out the door with warranty work complete. This is very nice considering all of the minor mods that were done to the sleds. I have consirered an M1000 myself out of frusteration with Polaris, but whos to say the grass is greener on the other side. With the dwindling number of Cat dealers around, it scary to think how far i would have to drive for a dam belt. Its really nice to swing by the dealership on the way to the hill Saturday morning and grab what you need. Or bumb parts off of your buddy who is riding the same sled. All I'm saying is feel free to vent...And on the flip sidetake it easy on the ventors. I'm sure your D8 runs perfectly and you have never had any trouble at all. One day we ALL be lucky enough to own a new PRO..................Happy Trails kids.

What's he going to do now? His is a perfect example of a sled that Polaris should have taken back. He has spent a lot of money trying to make that thing right.

He's just the latest example... they have been getting these sorts of examples since 2000.

What's his plan?

I don't know what the plan is yet. Does Indydan make a PTO end for these 800's yet? I PM'd him and left a voicemail for him. I've had pretty good results with the PCV and just hooked up the autotune and was looking forward to some more fine tuning with that. My crank took a **** within sight of the trailer at the end of the day. I'm at my rope's end at this point. I was thinking about buying a new sled next year and more than likely buying a pro but, after some of the reports I've heard about the new E tech's I might jump ship.

I doubt finances will allow it for me, but that would be my thought as well. If mine burns down I'm done snowmobiling for quite some time.

Bossrev just hooked me up with a killer deal on an Everest Etec 154.

08 Dragon is for sale, I was going to buy a new one next year anyway,

Try the "THE FIX" by MTNTK www.pmspolaris.com

It's Sunday night. How many more D8 riders rode the tow rope back to the truck? When will the pain end?

"THE FIX"
The kit includes:
2 Hard Anodized/Friction Coated Forged Pistons
1 Plated Cylinder Shim
8 Longer Cylinder Base Bolts
1 Base Gasket
2 Cylinder Alignment Dowels
1 Set of Instructions
$585 plus tax and frt
pmspolaris.com can install for right around $300 or you can have your local polaris dealer or local shop install it.
MTNTK has sold them to a rental company in West Yellowstone and they have been using them and we even have them in turbocharged engines without failure. Yes they are wiseco forged pistons, hard anodized and friction coated.
We have been running these kits since last winter and have done teardown evaluations which we take the pistons out to inspect and they look great. It has been crazy how fast these kits are going out the door, and we are building them as fast as possible to keep up with demand, Let us know and we will get you on the list. This is a long term solution to the durabilty issues polaris 800 engines are experiencing. Everyone that has put one in and rode with it has commented on the snap the motor has in the midrange and how much quieter the engine seems. It makes the engine seem like it wants to pull harder and longer than it did before.
