WE just got back from the encampment area we rode the sierra madres and the snowies. the sierras were decent but have a long way to go, and the snowies just plain sucked.

There is snow, but you have to hunt for it. it's been so windy that the snow we have gotten is wind blown into piles, and whatever else is around is blown hard. Hopefully we will get some snow soon, by this time last year we were sittin on over 120 inches, right now i'd be impressed if there was 70 inches. We need snow, so do your dance, prayers, whatever seems to work to please the Snow Gods.....

i'm gonna throw the b.s. flag, there's good snow and it's not that hard to find but it's far from awesome. i'd say it's worth it and there's more snow coming this week so it should be pretty good. stay in the trees and you'll find good snow...huntibg for it is part of the fun.

We've been up here since the 27th, and are riding today (Friday) and tomorrow morning. As mentioned it has been windy and with no new snow in a while the crowds have taken a toll.

Stay off the beaten paths and you will find snow. Yesterday afternoon after lunch we rode in a foot of powder and had a absolute blast. We hit forest service roads, creek bottoms, clearcuts, and did some very fun tree running - we did not cross another track until we circled back on our own tracks and headed home at dark) We are heading out to that same area again this morning after breakfast. I'll take the camera with me this time, to try and get some 'proof' :)

It snowed a little yesterday, but not much. Hoping the forecast holds true for this afternoon.tonight/tomorrow.

Snowmobiling never sucks, but there are better days than others, it could be worse - we could all be working instead of riding!

Depends how far you're driving and how many trips you make a year. If this is one of your only trips or if you're driving more than 600 miles, wait till they get a few more snows.

X2 Wait a while. Need some more snow!! But heres for being here riding:beer;:beer;. Bad day of riding is better than a good day of work!!!!!

We found more fresh snow in the trees - it was sunny for most of the morning and then the clouds moved in this afternoon. It snowed a little today, but there was not much snow new where we were riding, hopefully other areas are seeing more new snow than we did. The stars were out a few hours ago, we can't see them now so hopefully we'll see some fresh snow by the morning.

As mentioned above - right now there are tough snow conditions, but you can find fresh snow if you look for it, but some major snow dancing is in order for the next few storms.....

Hit the trees and the creek bottoms to find the fresh stuff, stay away from the open areas that have been windblown. All the stuff close to the trailheads is tracked up, so take a trailride for at least 15 miles then head off into the trees.

I was out the last two days, and I won't be going back out until we get some more snow. Luckily I only hit rocks and stumps with my skis, too risky though I will be waiting.

3-4 inches of new this morning, and it is still coming down. Hopefully there is even more up top and on the backside of the peaks. (we are west of Rob Roy near the Rambler)

Keep it coming!!!

Rode today out of albany.
The larger fields are pretty wind blown, but the smaller ones were a blast.
Had bumper deep snow all over the place. Just ran trees from small clearing to small clearing.

We rode a 1/2 day, easily the best conditions since last Sunday. The snow in the trees and smaller meadows was good.

I'd also like to give a special shout out and thank you to the white Duramax dually from Iowa that blocked us in at the Albany parking lot today. I hope to return the favor someday :)

Got to love the out of staters. Double parking at green rock, don't know how to park at albany. Got to love it. Makes me wish my pull truck was a tow truck. By the way how was the snow on the back side today. Was great south of the highway.

:)

We were all out this morning getting ready to ride and three guys on sleds came up the back driveway and rode through my parent's place. I guess the 'private drive' and the sign that says "Private land for the next mile, please stay on road" were not clear enough. We don't really care that they came though, but there were 7 of us standing there warming up our sleds getting ready for our ride this morning, at least they could have stopped and apologized for being on private property and ask how to get to the trail! All three drove by us, went up the main driveway and turned around and rode back by us again the way they came in as we warmed up our sleds. Like I said, it's not a big deal, I'm sure there are tons of people that have driven down when we aren't there, but at least have some courtesy and stop and talk when you drive by 15 feet from us! We did see them on the road a few minutes later, and they at least waved back when I waved to them.......

We didn't go any more than 5 miles north so we were well south of the highway, but the snow did seem to get deeper the farther north we went, so the guys that rode up top today may have had some good snow if they could find areas out of the wind.

found bumper deep snow in the trees, steped of my sled up to my nuts, I'm 6'4 just have to look for the snow

be the snow

Is it me or is the parking at albany NUTS this year.
They really need to put that burm back up.

The east side is pretty poor but once you work up to Lake Marie the snow wasn't too bad today. There is definitely a hard base under it now. Bumper deep everywhere. Boondocking was a kick in the pants today. Made it around to the rollercoaster where it started thinning out again.

I agree - the trucks parked on the east side of where that berm used to be, need to be parking about 15 feet farther toward the railroad grade. That would still leave room for a row of parallel parking on the railroad grade side, and the area by the "show-off hill" wouldn't be so slammed. There is basically a two lane highway from the entrance to the corner to turn to the bathrooms.

The berm did help provide some 'structure' before, and I miss it too!
