Snowy Range Parking Lot???

I havent heard much about the snowy range parking lot we are frequent riders in this are so I was just wondering if anything big has happened lately

Thanks

They made available the Public Comment portion of the Scenic Byway plan which included this parking lot this summer. According to Associated Press reports, I would make the comment that; snowmobilers were caught napping or vacationing through the summer season while the anti-sledders made a major effort in swaying the comment portion.

It will progress further in the Forest Service Planning stages for final decision that I would not expect this year unless it happens in the spring. I am hoping that the Forest Service prevails in their multiuse planning and allow the lot. Remember, if the Forest Service was against it, it wouldn't have been included in the plan to begin with. So just the fact that they are considering it, is good for snowmobilers even though I feel that sledders didn't come through or prevail in the Public Comment window.

Going Forward

I think we all understand how crazy things get in the off season. That being said I don't think anybody would be surprised if I'm not checking Snowest because it's July and so humid that water shoots out from the keys as I type. But that's not an out to not get involved and do my part to help protect the riding areas that I travel 900 miles to enjoy.

So what I propose is this: Since everyone that rides the range may not check the forums on a regular basis, they most certainly check their email. Someone (Meaning someone more technically savvy than me) creates a general email mailing list. People that want to do their part send their email addresses in via this forum. In the event that the greenies try to take away our rights to enjoy a NATIONAL park, an email is dispatched to all on the mailing list.

That should render a much better response, solidifying our voice. It may also shed some light on who is willing to do their part and who is not.

I'll sit this one out awhile,,, but check out this;

To see how hard it is for the Snowy Range Snowmobile club to get members it doesn't surprise me. Club's are in place for things like this, but without active membership it is hard to fight for all snowmobilers rights. Last year I was very discouraged seeing how no one wants to join a club in the Laramie area to help protect rights. I am sure this year will be the same.

2 things.
the Snowy Mountain snowmobile club needs to make a few changes.
Make it possible for people to sign up at the lodges. See how many lodges would allow this. It would make it possible for people like me to sign up. I can't attend the meeting because it is to far for a work day trip, however I would love to sign up.

Also, more attention getting. Put up notices at parking areas and lodges. Put up notices in the outhouses (sounds wierd, but a LOT of people go thru those) with a list of places to sign up and the things they are doing.

I heard about it at the end of last season and plan on signing up this season as soon as I figure out how.

As for the forest service thing. I sent in one of those 24. I like how they open these things after the sledding season is over and the greenies are active and we're not. They close it before the sledding season season begins.
Then they talk about how they didn't get any sledders.
What a joke.

Good Point. Tree hugging season is 24x7x365.

I know that there were brochures at Albany Lodge and I believe WY Colo and Snowy range lodges as well, and their was also a Chili Feed at Albany Lodge last winter...I think 2 or 3 people besides the volunteer members went to the chili feed. I do hope you join, just pick up a brochure and call the number on the brochure. If you want PM me and I will provide you with that Information.

I will tell you that I am flat out disgusted with the Laramie area snowmobilers and people that regularly use the Snowy Range. There is no interest to better our sport and protect it. It is a me, me world, and people just want to do their riding and let others worry about protecting the riding areas. Then when we lose riding or parking rights, they will be the ones that bit ch and moan the worst.

I'm the first to acknowedge I don't do enough to keep the areas open, however, I am also a big believer in "if you don't have the time, then step up and pay others to do it for you", thus the join and pay to play.

I will be joining, I'll pick up a brochure at Albany Lodge.

Have you thought about just putting together a cheap little flyer and putting it on peoples windshields at Albany and greenrock.

Sad that we are just finding out about this now- Too bad Blue Ribbon did not know about this so they could have sent out a blast email. I send a comment to everyone of those that I get

No way I can get to any WY club meetings but I would join any club just to get land use updates. Any suggestions on which one to join for this type of info? or maybe Motorized Recreation Council of Wyoming?

I know clubs are a great thing, (plan to join) but why can't we get a social group started on this very subject on SnoWest. Or possibly make a registration to join the club and make it a social group. That way you could send out one mass email, that would make it easier for some of the outer of state people. Just a thought.

I sent a letter in June

"grass roots" organizing is a good thing. I agree with Ollie and the rest, the sled club or whatever needs to be vocal. I'll sign up to be a member in WY. Our clubs here in MN send out e-mail all the time - great vehicle to send info. Clubs here have it maybe a little easier since the threat of closings occurs only around the Metro suburbs and the Canoe Area by Canada and sleds are embedded in the culture here. Heck, even Franken and Klobuchar realize the jobs in Thief and Roseau are worth their campaign dollars and they shut their flappers.

It's all about dollars and being vocal. The baby boomer hippys have that figured out. They have the money, and they get the 20 years olds to be their minions and scream and shout for them.

The motorized recreation council is a joke the guy who runs it is a joke- I think your best bet is the Wyoming State Snowmobile Association like Sixpointbull stated.

Lots of negative talk about the "maverick" snowmobile club last year.

If you join a local club, part of your dues goes to the WSSA. The WSSA represents all of the clubs in WY. I would think that people would want to get involved in their local areas, that is where your voice will be heard the most. Another good reason to get involved in a local club is to meet other riders and make new friends to ride with..........isn't that a good thing?

As far as your last statement, I sent you a PM.

You're correct. Problem is not every area has an active club (Laramie/Saratoga) so there is an at-large membership option which still gets interested parties a copy of the Wrangler each month and their dues help the state cover some of the costs associated with efforts (like the parking lot issue referenced above) made in their riding areas.

It would be nice to have folks take the initiative to organize a club in these areas to help with these issues.

Even if it's just a group of online folks interested in joining together to make a difference it can be done.

PM me and I'll be happy to help out if I can.
