Snowy Range parking lot meeting today 1/26/10

Is there any way to create an online letter that can be signed online and printed? Would it be legal? Could we force another meeting on the grounds we were not given ample time to attend the last one?

Maybe this idea has been presented; if so disregard. How about a passing lane added to 130 going up the hill. It would be a multi-use asset, have less impact on the scenic by-way aspect.

This is a great idea, but I'm sure its too easy and involves common sense. I've thought all along why not just wider gravel shoulders? Their half way built now and wouldn't impact the environment nearly as much as a whole parking lot. If its parking just for the snowmobilers, this would be the best scenario, since we have trouble with parking lots :face-icon-small-sho [just the Huskers!]

That means another roadside trail that you cant get up on to- if it is above the road- which it will with all the snow- I dont think that is good

without refering,,,,which one is it????????????

hog

From Wyomojo...

Here is a quote from Biodiversity's Eric Molvar (who is also on the Laramie City Council) from the Casper Star Tribune on Jan 14th.

"The wildlife impacts are oriented to sensitive alpine wildlife and tundra, as well as the health of trout populations in apline lakes, which are sensitive to snowmobile-related pollution -- not elk and deer. Siting the same parking lots on Highway 230 or in Albany would provide access to an enormous network of snow-covered roads where impacts would be minimal. This would be a win-win situation where everyone's interests can be successfully accomodated."

This was printed in the Sunday Laramie Boomerang. It is an opinion article from them. They make a lot of valid points and it looks that they are for a solution to the parking lot. I think a lot of Business and others in the Laramie and Albany County communities realize the benefit that snowmobiles have on the winter economy here. I think we can make it happen, if we get organized and get our voice out there.

When it comes to snowmobiles don't expect much from the "opposition" but no votes. At the meeting last week somebody said there is enough room for everybody. Duane Short replied that there is "not enough room for everybody". That pretty much lets you know all you need to about where biodiversity stands. They would like to see sleds gone period. Good luck with that.

EXACTLY! Read the attached and you know where they stand on this issue...NO SLEDS! They are pretty up-front on letting everyone know they're also pushing the USFS on this issue IN PRIVATE, not in public meetings.

Albany co. commission, biodiversity, and U.S.fs are hosting a "work session" about a parking lot today, open to the public at 10am at the courthouse. Quick notice I know but thats how this crap goes down.
Now, that just irritates me. I'm supposedly on the FS list of people to be notified about the parking lot issue, and this is the first I've heard of it. Obviously, living in Cheyenne I don't get the Laramie RumorBang every day, so I didn't know about the meeting.

Also anyone out there familiar with open meeting laws?
Without knowing who was there, it would be hard to say if they violated the Public Meetings laws. For Wyoming agencies, it's my understanding that there has to be a quorum for it to be considered a "meeting." I think if they have an informational gathering where no decision results, there wouldn't be a violation of public meetings laws. Of course, the FS is probably subject to different rules because it's federal, not state. We'd have to look into it more carefully if anything actually happened, but it's probably just more irritating than anything.

Someone should get some screenshots of that page before it's gone. It may well be useful to you in the future with all of this.

I'm not sure about the costs compared to building a parking lot. My guess would be that it would also be a state and federal project.
OCD's letter idea is something we can do---say a banner advertising a sign-up on a trailer at Greenrock, Albany, and Chains end on a Saturday. Can you imagine how many signatures could be garnered.

I was thinking about the banner idea as well. Don't know if I could get something set up by Presidents Day weekend or not.

Quick/easy way to get signatures

Make sure each business in the Snowy Mtns that sells WY trail permits has a copy and when you buy the trail permit, you sign the petition?
