Albany co. commission, biodiversity, and U.S.fs are hosting a "work session" about a parking lot today, open to the public at 10am at the courthouse. Quick notice I know but thats how this crap goes down.

"biodiversity"?!?!?!:confused::mad::confused::mad:

Man! These guys sure seem to have their claws in the system don't they? The rest of the world gets a couple hours notice and 'they' are on the docket? Go figure...

I'm sure it was a bloodbath for sledders......

That's a given!!!

"The meeting will give Biodiversity the opportunity to explain its stance on a snowmobile parking lot in the Green Rock area and what they think should be done."

Again, how in the hell did these people get to set the stage for this meeting?!? HOPEFULLY there was at least ONE sledder that had a voice in that room...:face-icon-small-con

Just got back from meeting(discussion about where to put the lot). F.S. said their people are too busy dealing with the beetlekill right now to worry about the lot. There will be a public comment period "hopefully" by next winter according to the dis. ranger. Biodiversity wants no lot on 130. They want expanded lots in Albany or 230. They are also using this as a way to get their foot in the door for snowmobile management. Duane Short(head bio dude) said "it can not be free-for-all for snowmobiles". That we need to have a management like ATV's. Sledders were represented pretty well, skiers to though. This is coming right back down to(like it always does) skier vs snowmobiler. Hang on to your boots folks this is gonna get good!

I don't care how you slice it...more parking is better for everyone so that the road is not so dangerously congested.

Keep us posted on the timing for the next meeting and maybe we can gather a few more voices.

Fixed it for you...
All they are doing by putting off the tough decisions is creating a bigger problem down the road - whether it's beetle kills or parking lots.

They want to kick the snowmobilers off the mountain and put a larger lot near Albany-

That aint gonna work! and everyone should say so

Biodiversity is looking for way to end backcountry snowmobiling in the Snowy Range. Here is a quote from Biodiversity's Eric Molvar (who is also on the Laramie City Council) from the Casper Star Tribune on Jan 14th.

"The wildlife impacts are oriented to sensitive alpine wildlife and tundra, as well as the health of trout populations in apline lakes, which are sensitive to snowmobile-related pollution -- not elk and deer. Siting the same parking lots on Highway 230 or in Albany would provide access to an enormous network of snow-covered roads where impacts would be minimal. This would be a win-win situation where everyone's interests can be successfully accomodated."

Biodiversity brought up Minnesota today, about that when the snow melts there is a layer of oil left on the water, and Mr. D. Short is pretty sure that the same thing is happening here.
The meeting almost got derailed, from being about a p.lot to restricting sleds. This is headed towards much more than a 10 acre chunk of ground imho.

Damn, wish I'd have known--I'd have been there. My fault for not being more diligent.

Pretty sure- where is the science and proof-- Humm there are more sleds in MN than people in Wyoming including winter visitors- he is the same idoit that claimed snowmobilers were disrupting big game in the snowies--- those animals leave high elevations for food- they always have and always will

Read the local rag at 7am and the meets at 10 the same day, not much notice. Thats the way biodiversity likes it. Only their peeps are suppose to know.

I would have been there, but didn't find out until two hours after it had started. That is BS, it should have been in the Sunday paper.

Oh well, if they ever shut down snowmobiling the businesses in Laramie will be screaming bloody murder the first winter without. The city of Laramie should probably be thinking about that.
