Snowy Range Back Country Safety Kits

I put these out last year and starting to get them back out again this year. Already have had 3 people spends some nights in the Snowy Range.

Feel free to put these coordinates in your GPS and if you have an emergency you can hopefully make it to one of them. Look for the orange tape in the trees. I put some orange reflectors on some as well for better night time visibility.

I paid for all this stuff myself (well almost, as I did get a few Snowest members that kindly sent me a few things last year), so if you use something please replace it when you can or let me know if you can't and I'll get it back in there.

Safety Kit Coordinates:

1st one is in the group of pines to the northeast corner of Trail "T" and "Q" at: N 41 deg 13.327' W 106 deg 15.641'

2nd one is in the old cabin off the trail "T" at: N 41 deg 16.937' W 106 deg 17.276'
This is the cabin just to the south of the Nelson Safety Hut east of Trail W. See pictures. It's behind the wood in the corner.

3rd Kit: Same as last year, right off 130 at: N 41 deg 19.807' W 106 deg 21.546'

4th Kit: At the end of the roller coaster right off the trail here: N 41 deg 23.290' W 106 deg 17.916'

5th Kit: Behind Sand Lake Outhouse here: N 41 deg 27.353' W 106 deg 16.392'

Each tote has:
10 ft tow rope, zip ties, duct tape, needle nose pliers, slip-joint pliers, multi-tip screwdriver, steel wire, matches, fire log starter, compass, emergency blanket, hatchet, bunjies, small container of 2 stroke oil, two BPR9ES spark plugs, toilet paper, maps, aluminum cup, 9hr candle, LED flashlight w/extra batteries, two 5x7 plastic tarps, pair of cotton work gloves, pocket hand wamers, small first aid kit, beef jerkey, and a can of Spam. Also nearby will be a 2 gal can of premium fuel.

Thanks Chuck, much appreciated. We will be out there for our first time in January, hopefully we won't need to use anything, but I am glad to know that stuff is there!

Talk about a class act guy. I wish more people in this world were as thoughtful. Thanks Chuck

Hey.. Chuck ...

Do you need any more supplies??

Spark plugs??

Tow rope??

Batteries??? for Gps Maybe???

Thanks Napa Matt

Napa Matt, much appreciated. If you have some more various spark plugs that would be great. All I have in the kits are a few of the others you sent me last year and some of the BR9ES that I put in them. I'm not sure what Yamaha, Cat, and Polaris are running mostly these days.

Hope to make it up this Saturday and get out a few more kits. I'm heading to China for work on Monday the 29th-Dec 15th so won't make it back up there until around Christmas break. I'm going to look for some better totes on black Friday to hopefully make them last longer. The rubbermaid cheap ones I bought last year took a pounding in my sled. They held up good and kept everything dry last year, but through the summer their shape is not quite the same anymore.

I'll post what I get done hopefully on Sunday or sitting in an airport somewhere on Monday.

If you want to send something to add to the kits my address has changed again so PM me for the details. Thanks, Chuck

:first: Truely a class act, I've been riding Snowy Range for a very long time, and know my way around very well , but as we all know stuff happens and you never know when you will be the one to be stranded, lost hurt whatever. If there is anything I can do to help this project or yourself. Supplies, $$$ donations whatever. It is just a calm sense of security knowing that stuff is there in case of emergency. Thanks again Chuck.

I'm working with my local Colorado Blizzards club president who is going to see if we can get Wyoming and Colorado to help get some grant money so we can take this project to the next level and get more kits out in different riding areas in both states.

Here's my address if anyone decides they want to help out:

I appreciate all the offers and the things that were sent last year as well.

Spread the word and let others know where they are as well. Lot's of people still don't go on these websites.

Thanks for the support, Chuck

Hello Chuck,
Tried to access your paypal but MS Explorer didn't seem to think I had a valid Email. Not sure what that means. Any other way to access it. I sure would like to kick in a few bucks for the cause. Later, Joe

I have some family in town this week but afterward am game to help out with anything you need. This is just a great idea!

Thanks for the offer. I'm leaving for Shanghai China until Dec. 15th tomorrow morning so won't be around for a while.

I did forget to get some orange marking tape on kit 1 if anyone has time to stop by there on your way out of Albany and tie some up in a tree. It's buried in the snow in the clump of pine trees right in the NE corner off the Trail Q and T as you are coming out of Albany by Rob Roy Reservoir. You will see a clearing near it on the hill where they have been logging.

Also thanks a ton to all those that have sent donations to the cause.

When I get enough $$ I'm going to add flares and shovels to each of the kits.

I think there's a typo in the waypoint data for Kit #1. I think it's in the vicinity of N 41 deg 13.139' and W 106 deg 61.433' (this is near the intersection of FS 500 and 543). The other waypoints look great!
Thanks!
