in an avalanche down out of Ferron. Lets hope they can dig him out today. Just a reminder that just because we've had a fairly uneventful winter you can never be too careful. My Condolences go out to the family and friends of the young man who passed away.

It's brutal to go visit these accidents and talk with folks who were there. I checked out the site but didn't speak to anyone who was involved yet. I was told they were pretty rattled, not surprising or uncommon. Hopefully, we can chat.

Not out of the ordinary terrain but it was in an area that was VERY shallow and is holding VERY weak snow near the ground. Not uncommon for shallow areas.

Here's the link to the updated report: http://utahavalanchecenter.org/avalanches/accident-12-mile-canyon

Sad.... so very sad.... :rose::rose::rose::rose::brokenheart: Hate to hear of a loss of someone that shared the same love and passion to the same sport I love...

Sorry to hear this terrible news.

That 2 fatal snowmobiler avalanches that have happened on terrain real similar to what I wouldn't have been too worried about. It really opens your eyes.....

God Speed to him! and I hope that we all take a minute or 2 when we get to the hills, look and see if they are safe for play. You just never know!

If you look in the other post by Sled Gimp about the lucky rider, it is the same guy that triggered the one in the pics. So sad that he did this and didnt see the signs.

If the above is true how upsetting!! To have a near miss like that should have been a life lesson to that guy! No beacon? Really!!!????

no beacon $300 could have saved his life

Doubt it. He was buried 10' deep. The only thing that would dug him out in time woulda been an excavator. Even if he was only 2' deep, I wonder if anybody in his group even had a shovel on them to dig with.
