This topic seems well covered, but it's raining and I'm just sitting here so allow me to suggest that while nobody "likes" paying taxes, you should seriously travel to other countries if you feel American's are overtaxed for what we receive, or that our terrible Gov't can't do anything right. Yeah, we already know the healthcare exchange rollout was a disaster - please spare us that conversation.

I suggest central and south america as nearby alternatives - been to Mexico lately? - but most places in Asia or southern europe will also become education adventures. Russia anyone? You'll return with a newfound appreciation for how well stuff works here.

While I'm at it, allow me to suggest that the vast majority of folks whining about federal taxes - separate from state, sales, gas, property or estate taxes - pay exceptionally little tax in the first place. Yet they still hapily enjoy the mortgage, charitable, retirement and healthcare deductions. The top bracket folks are the ones paying the real freight. …but that's because they have all the income in the first place.

The cost of running a groomer is going up like everything else, fuel, parts labor, the machinery etc.
I think the contractors will get more per hour, that doesn't mean we will see more grooming.
The grooming dollars will not go as far because of the increase in costs.
I think the grooming will be the same for years to come.

I was a contractor for years, so I have some insight on how the program works.

I'm all for raising the tabs as long as it is managed they way has been in the past. Meaning the bulk of that money goes to grooming and plowing. We have long had cheap tabs and gas prices have steadily increase while our tabs have not, so it is probably about time (past time).

I'm not a fan of the Canadian system as $20 per day, per person, is steep as all hell, but then everything is expensive up there it seems...

granted their gear costs less.

but that has nothing to do with where they go ride.

golf course fee???

the price of the sled...skis....clubs has nothing to do with where you use them.

I generally hate the govt and I have to deal with govt types way more than 99% of you. I really hate taxes. The ones I hate less are the pay to play taxes like the snowmobile tabs. As long as some of the money makes it to us I am fine with $40-60 tabs. I would rather see us self manage the grooming but that just won't happen as most people wont follow through and donate money.

Is this $ going into the "General Fund"? If so than this is BS. I'd pay $100 no problem if i knew the $ would go to sled/orv type stuff like improvements and grooming. The problem is we can vote all we want but the Government and State Supreme Court have decided the people don't know WTH they are doing. Take the reversal of the super majority vote to raise taxes we voted in a few years back. Our Supreme court overturned that and now it's back to simple majority. Or how about that giant hole in the ground in King County. The people didn't want that but the government decided the people don't matter. So i guess the point of my rant is.......the government blows so much of our $ i do not trust them to use our $ how and where it is intended to be used. I know, like Matte, about the Government/ State, i am involved with them daily. Millions and millions wasted yearly.....

I guess you all are missing the point of the canada way....so...let me preach

you show up at the trailhead....there is a fee collector there....they collect 20 per sled.. does not matter if kid dad mom or dog...you go up the groomed trail you pay.

you get a ticket much like a ski area ticket. wavers and disclaimers etc on the back.


you ride....weeeehaaaa groomed trail

after 80 riders or so that trail gets groomed again.

so on and so on

how hard does it have to be ????

the fees also take care of the parking lot...

and as a added bonus the local "collector" for this area also maintains a nice chalet in every riding area for "paying" members to use..

canada style

with this we have total control... the "collector" ie local club owns the groomer. we groom when it is "needed". funding is up to
us. and e could work deals on motorized and non motorized much easier. imo

as it is no one wins.

we constantly battle the non motorized crowd...

and if the current recommendations for added non motorized and wilderness go through then will be riding in canada mostly. not registering my sled and going on teanaway wilderness joy rides..

we either have to pay ....or go away

We get all the money it goes to the Designated snowmobile account for our grooming program .The tab are going up 10 $ this year and 10$ next year.

we've been down this road so many times and its published and talked about every year, NO ,,, our registration fee's DO NOT go into the general fund, like its been said many times in some of these post, it goes into our Winter rec motorized DEDICATED funds. Run by state parks but with an advisory committee of snowmobilers, skiers, dog sledders , dept of fish and wildlife ect. We decide where to spend the money, mostly on grooming, AGAIN, NONE OF OUR MONEY GOES INTO THE GENERAL FUNDS !

Pretty sure it is all club supported trails and parking and grooming.
did not the mountaineers have this same setup at baker,snoqualmie,meeny and stevens????
