We're thinking about heading out to the snowies in January because we have to work around some people's Christmas breaks. Is early to mid January good for snow or are the best times in February? What are the conditions usually like?

Cold or warm, Windy or still, Fresh powder or packed ice, Sunny or cloudy. Would you like to continue :face-icon-small-hap

so its a toss up. got ya. I just ask because in the UP precip seems to be heavy in december and february. always seems to stop snowing for a while in january for some reason and be either figid and windy or hot and sunny. at least thats what i noticed over my last 5 years there. just wondering if there was some kind of trend that ppl noticed out there.

What's that saying?

......"expect the worst but hope for the best".....

Nobody will know until that day arrives.

In Jan, one thing for sure you will have a ton of snow to ride on. You will find great days Dec - May.

Book the trip - any day of riding is better than working right?

You are right! The snow usually subsides a little in January(meaning it snows more in February then January it seems). Been riding the range for the last 17 years and the best snow I've seen on average is usually Feb. 8-20th! For some reason there is always a huge dump the 2nd to 3rd week in February. December is great but still lots of rocks and April always brings great snow. Not the slushy, sticky kind, but good quality powder snow. I'd stick with February:face-icon-small-win
