SnoWest's 2011 project sled - Project Mid-Life Crisis (Update- MTN TAMER install)

If you're going to the Intermountain Snowmobile Show in Salt Lake this weekend, here's a tentative schedule for building this sled during the show.

Friday afternoon/evening:
  • ArcticFX wrap install--left side (Dan Adams)
  • Skinz Protective Gear AirFrame seat and front and rear bumper install (Jeff Hawksworth)

Saturday morning:
  • Holz Racing front control arms--left side
  • Fox Float Evol shocks--left side
  • Starting Line Products Powder Pro skis

Saturday afternoon:
  • "Two Guys, Two Hours" Boondocker pump gas turbo install (Jared Sessions & Tony Jenkins). Boondocker's objective is to have two techs do a complete install in two hours, during the show.

.

Sounds awesome I cant wait! Jared and Tony are gonna get er done for sure!

Putting it together to get it to Salt Lake, so we can tear it down again...

We put the factory rear bumper back together, even though a Skinz bumper is going on the rear at SLC

Cleaning up the spindles for assembly. The bad (and good) part about powdercoating is the thickness of the material. It messes up tolerances.

Funny story-- I was covering a Duramax engine rebuild and after they put the short block together and the heads on, the guy pulls out this box of parts they had powder coated navy blue. Valve covers, brackets, tubing, cast mounts, intake runners, valley crossover, etc. They start putting all of it on and what do you know, nothing is lining up. They had to grind down every flat mounting surface on every part... Anyway, I thought it was funny.

This thing looks my kid barfed Fruit Loops right now

Side b (Black panels from Polaris mtn engineering guys. We'll run the black panels behind the wrap)

And another peek at the direction this is all headed. Come watch half the wrap, half the suspension, black seat and turbo go on this weekend.

It looks more like barfed candy corns and raspberry Slushy now.

That sled is going to me the cats Azz. Will this be raffled off or what is the build for?

Man I bet a set of 8" wide Powderhounds would be sweet on there. You surely picked a great chassis to start with.

Ok, at first I thought you had a mess going with those colors. Now I'm excited to see what you have for a finished product. Hurry up.

Colors?

Hey guys,
Ya the colors throw me for a loop because it reminds me of the 80's new wave queer colors, is that really what were going back to, I allways hated those new wave f*gs. But I guess if you haven't seen the 80's in real life it wouldn't bother you. just proves it's all been done in colors and music. still want to see the finished product hope it changes my mind.

Sweet Sled!! Horible color combo. Just as bad as something Doc Zoom would build:) Im sure it will be an awesome sled but just the wrong colors for me. Hope it all ties in better when complete.

No raffle, just the SnoWest/Mod-Stock magazine project, like we've done for the past 16 years. It will be the cover feature of next year's Mod-Stock magazine. The January 2011 issue of SnoWest will also have an article on it.

Last season's Project HCR is featured in the new issue of Mod-Stock, on newsstands in late November.

8 inch side skis? That would kill this chassis's sidehilling ability. You need that inside ski to sink in...

Good one. He usually sticks to the Tweety Bird yellow/bright blue combo. But I guess I don't have much ground to stand on with the crap we've got going on here...

Like the others I thought it was going to look very much like an acid trip gone bad but it is looking to be one nice sled! I like the all black covers with no wrap though very stealthy! Can't wait to see the finished product wanted to go to the SL show but schedule change now I have to work!

Ryan... I like the colors actually... it really "POPS" that is for sure.

Pics..... Tungsten lighting? Photoshop saturation tweaked a bit?

The latest set seems to have better glass on them than a point/shoot.

Dont get too attached to the seat support.... the SPG seat has its own.

A tunnel side wrap will help keep ice build up to a minimum.

Or a 1980's boa.

Nice job guys! Can't wait to see it completed.

Yeah, I've got it here at the powder coat shop. I had the stock one done before I got final word from Skinz, so it had to go on anyway.

Goofy white balance. Fixed the last one after I put it on the first time. Been using the D700 for these recent ones. The point and shoot bugs me.
