Snowcat Skiing near Breckenridge?

Does anyone have tips on a good cat skiing place near Breckenridge?

I wish i could bring my sled with me, but will be going on a ski trip with a few friends and families, none of who are sledders. A few of us would like to hit some backcountry tho, just trying to find a good place to go..

Thanks.

If you are coming in the next few weeks there will be no cat skiing even operating yet. There is no snow!!
But the only cat skiing near Brek is at Keystone inside the ski area.
Jones pass has the new operation opening this year, but also has no snow.

A bit farther away is Buff pass in Steamboat, they have enough snow and may n=be operating already???

Good luck!!

No offense, but this is a sledding site.

Agree with Kaleb. There are quite a few folks on this site who ski, board, use a sled for ski/board access, etc. I don't think the guy is out of place asking about cat skiing.

Your best bet for cat skiing right now would be Steamboat Powdercats. The Keystone cat operation sucks. Vail pass doesn't have enough snow yet to ski, so you would be wasting your money.

i've done the keystone cat with my family. They do a great job for a "family" trip. Not the most extreme but my retired parents loved it. The guides did allow me to take a few drops and the catered lunch is pretty sweet.

Hey, I didn't rip the guy. I just said it was a sledding site, I didn't yank the thread either so don't start your immature little bash fests.

It would have been hypocritical if I had yanked it, moved it or closed it. I really had no idea that that many of you actually ski.

FYI, the guy that owns Steamboat Powdercats is a douche, but if you do use them you should request a guide named Rob. He's been with them a loooooooong time. I used to work with him in the summers surveying and Powdercats is all he talked about.

Ski Cooper has a cat ski operation

BCB

Cooper does have cat skiing, unfortunately they're not even open yet due to lack of snow:(.

Supposed to open the 18th.
You could also rent a sled from a couple operations in Frisco who will bring it to Vail Pass. You can then tow your friends to the top of Ptarmigan pass.(where Vail snowcats runs their tours, less than 2 miles from the trail head)

Wow! This is EXACTLY why I decided to post this question on here. After much searching for snowcat information on google, nothing! I found maybe one or two of these operations in my search.

The trip isn't until late March, so I'm not too worried about enough snow...although, what's the snow conditions like then? Any pow late March?

I'm not sure of how many people are going to be going, or what abilities everyone is at, but I've been riding for 14 years and am looking for the best terrain possible. Most of the others however are "old guys" (40-50) who don't get much time in the mountains. I've been all over the place filming and riding, but never Colorado, so my mind was at a blank with this.

And no offense PJ..but I think you're spending a little too much time on the boards, you sound a little worked up that I posted a Colorado question in the Colorado section.

Thanks again everyone!

I'm not worked up. I just didn't think you could get the info that you wanted, I was surprised that you did. In all these years I have never seen a post in the Colorado section asking about skiing.
