Snow rescue.

Had to go rescue a sledder yesterday, with a broken femur. He was climbing up a hill in spring conditions, got to the top and lawn darted the far side of a blow hole about 10 feet deep. Sled landed on his left leg. Pretty sure he had a high femur facture. Due to some confusion on location, it took us 3 hours just to get the dispatch for the call, so make sure you guys take some type of GPS or SPOT or whatever so you can give accurate locations! And take some first aid equipment with you too. This poor guy layed in the snow for three hours before we got there. Luckily it wasn't life threatening. Be safe out there you guys and have fun!

Good call on the GPS, even the better idea of having a Spot with you. As a matter a fact there's one for sale for a great price in the communication/avy section! :face-icon-small-win

Great work. I encourage all of my riding buddies to carry a Garmin Rhino so that we can locate each other in the even of a missing rider. Had to use it a few times and it worked great.

We use those Rhinos in our crew too. while the radio can sometimes be spotty, it has GPS and friend locator and those are important in these situations. but from several opinions in my crew, the radio is poop.. we've all switched to the BCA linc radios but will still carry the rhinos for GPS and locator.. everyone should carry gps

I usually check in every ride with the wife and friends

Little update: turned out he did have a high femur fracture and had surgery to repair it Sunday night, should be coming home today. Gonna be a long road to recovery for him.

A couple of years ago we had to have one of our group got to go on a helicopter ride due to a impact with a tree. I was sitting on a ridge talking with the 911 operator who was talking with the Life Flight Pilot I could hear the helicopter off in the distance, I gave them my GPS coordinates and with in seconds of getting them I could hear the helicopter change directions and eventually fly right over were I was sitting. While they were loading our buddy up we asked them if what we did good and what we did bad (other than hitting the tree) so we could learn from the experience, they said we did good and the GPS location made it extremely easy for a quicker response time and pin pointing our location. I agree the radios on the Rhino's are not to good but the other features are helpfull.
Glad to hear the guy finally made it out.
