Snow reports/ Hope maybe north??

Who rode what today and how was it? Did we get any snow up north? Does hope valley/ blue lakes have any good snow? I am sure Sanora got pounded but when its deep its a little much for lori.. I would like to head to gold or maybe hope but if they dont have much I would rather just make the drive to sanora.
Thanks guys

snotel at leavitt says they got only 8 inches i think. we got 18 yesterday and maybe and 2 feet by monday. the last several storms have really nailed central cali. we're riding tomorrow above bass lake...i'll post up some pics tomorrow night.

Closer to 18"- 24" at Sonora today. Nice deep snow at Sonora right now, if only the damn sun would have come out!

Yeah, we got there, but we never did the notches, because of visability and the fear of getting socked in back there with the possibility of the only way out being up the elevator shaft with two feet of fresh and 10' of visibility is not my idea of fun.

We complain when the sun is shining, now were complaining that the sun isnt shining... WTF?

LET IT SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:D

well, we rode Sonora today. There was not as much fresh as I was expecting but enough to cover up the sucker holes from last weekend. The morning was awsome but got pretty nasty by about 1:30

We met some awsome guys (feel like a tool casue I can't remeber your name!) that helped us out of one stuck and checked up on us every time we ran into them. It is nice to know there are people out there that will have your back even if you don't know them!! Also, he was riding one of the nicest IQR long tracks I have seen!!! Very nice!

Chris

i didn't make it out today but dunbar and big kahuna rode out of beasore. they hit iron mountain and reported flat light but 2 feet of fresh. they had trouble climbing the half-pipe out of iron lakes if you know where that is.

another 2 feet is what the weather guys are saying for tonight and tomorrow here so if that comes through...we'll be doing pretty good here. we're riding tuesday once the sun pokes out.

jeff

weather guy just said about 12" by daylight tomarrow, with around 3-4' by next weekend! snow level around 2K feet for the norther sierras!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the compliment. Not very good with names either. Was a pretty good ride today. Even with the flat light. Maybe well see you guys out there again. Bill

Expect lots more snow

WE COULD BE IN FOR A MAJOR STORM OVER THE PRESIDENTS DAY PERIOD.

NEXT STORM LATE TONIGHT INTO MONDAY AM TO BRING 4 TO 7 INCHES AT THE VILLAGE AT MAMMOTH AND UP TO A FOOT OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS BY MONDAY NOON. ALTHOUGH THERE MAY BE DRIFTS MUCH DEEPER THAN THAT. THE NEW 12Z SUNDAY CANADIAN HAS A DOUBLE VORT STRUCTURE WITH ONE VORT CENTER CROSSING TO THE NORTH OF TAHOE AND THE OTHER PRETTY MUCH OVER MAMMOTH AT 4:00AM MONDAY. A -33C ISOTHERM AT 500MB IS OVER MAMMOTH AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL BE A VIGOROUS SHORTWAVE THAT WILL NO DOUBT BRING A SHORT PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS TO OUR AREA...BUT ONLY FOR A FEW HOURS.....MOSTLY DURING A TIME WHEN MOST FOLKS WILL BE ASLEEP. MOST OF THE PRECIP WILL BE OVER BY SUNRISE....THEN SHOWERY INTO THE REMAINDER OF THE MORNING.

LA NINA RELOADING......TROPICAL FORCING STUCK AT 130E TO 140 EAST.......EXTENDING FROM THE INDIAN OCEAN TO THE SPCZ.......SPELLS A LONG WET PERIOD....POSSIBLY THROUGH THE END OF FEBRUARY FOR CALIFORNIA.

DISCUSSIONS:

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE TIMING DIFFERENCES....BOTH THE EC AND GFS, ARE BOTH PAINTING QUITE A WET PATTERN IN THE LONGER RANGE OF 1 TO 2 WEEKS. SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SIERRA AND BENEFICIAL RAINS TO THE LOWER ELEVATIONS CALIFORNIA. RECENTLY, THE STORM TRACK HAS BEEN PRETTY MUCH BENEFITING THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH COASTAL AREAS OF THE STATE, THE SOUTHERN SIERRA ON EASTWARD THROUGH SOUTHERN CA....THIS IS DUE IN PART OF THE POSITION AND AMPLITUDE OF THE LONG WAVE UPPER HIGH IN THE EAST-CENTRAL PACIFIC NORTH OF HAWAII. IN TIME.....THE UPPER HIGH IS EXPECTED TO RETROGRADE FURTHER WEST....PROVIDING A DEEPER MOISTURE FETCH FOR SHORT WAVES, THAT WILL BRING HIGHER IMPACT WEATHER TO A LARGER AREA OF CALIFORNIA. FOR THE SIERRA, THE BULLS EYE FOR MAX PRECIPITATION IS OFTEN TIMES JUST NORTH AND SOUTH OF AN AREA BETWEEN THE 558DM AND 552DM HEIGHT LINES WITH THE UPPER JET CYCLONICLY CURVED IN AN OFF SHORE UPPER TROF. THE MEANS, DAY + 11 FROM LAST SATURDAY NIGHTS 00Z GFS HAD THE 552DM HEIGHT LINE OVER MAMMOTH. AND THE UPPER TROF AT 130WEST. THE DWEEBS LIKE THAT A LOT!!!! WE COULD BE IN FOR A MAJOR STORM OVER THE PRESIDENTS DAY PERIOD.

IN THE MEANTIME, SMALLER SYSTEMS WILL BRING LIGHT TO MODERATE AMOUNTS TO THE HIGH COUNTRY AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THROUGH THIS COMING WEEK. AGAIN TIMING DIFFERENCES ARE EVIDENT IN THE MEDIUM RANGE WITHIN THE TWO FAVORED MODELS.

Took a short ride out of Kingvale yesterday...over to Magonigal Summit. The climb out of Plavada was very thin...lots of rocks and dirt, had to carefully pick lines up or take the cat track to avoid long patches of dirt, rocks and mud/water. Once we got to the top it was actually decent. The north faces still seem to be in relatively good shape with nice coverage and a bit of fresh from last Friday. Last nights system will help for sure but we need a whole lot more to preserve this season.

Hopefully next weekend will be better...although I'm sure there will be lots of hidden treasures to watch out for.

yep...looks like the train is finally coming in. we are slated for a storm every other day through next tuesday with the mon/tues storm looking pretty strong.
we got another foot last night on top of 2 feet from the day before. this is on top of a 40 inch base from last week. we're riding tomorrow for some deep pow-pow fun!
