SnoPro vs Regular Models

Hi guys and Merry Xmas,
Looking at picking up a noncurrent left-over M8 or M1000. It seems everyone is saying it's best to ante up for a 09 version. I'm wondering if the the SP version is worth the extra $$ relative to the non-SP models?

Ditto what braap said. If you're a weight junkie & you'll be stripping weight off it, start with the snopro, if not.. eh, they're both fine.

btw, unless you reset your altimeter often, it's not worth having.

The floats are very nice to have, IMO its worth it but a standard will work fine aswell. All depends on the price diffrence

If you hit a rock with your ski hard enough to break anything your front shock usually bends around the upper a-arm. If/when this happens, you will pay a lot less for the standard shock then the float. Save your money, get the standard and take an extra day or two off work to ride.

IMO, my first impression of the floats was the same as everyone elses ... they suck in the chop, but they're great in the pow and soaking up single big hits..

I do really dig these telescoping handle bars on the SP though ....

I could care less about the altimeter, but I might if I didn't always have my GPS on hand, but the gage itself is allot easier to read while moving. If our trails were always smooth, the telescoping handle bars would be sweet, but since our trails are usually trashed, I just leave my bars high as I am always standing up over the rough sections.

The floats are awesome for taking big hits while still being soft for the little stuff, but they are not as good for high speed stuff as mentioned before. They are much tougher though. My wife bent here mag side a-arms early this season and it wasted the shaft on her standard shocks. I put my Floats on, and she did it again on our last ride! The floats didn't bend, but the a-arms were bent much worse than before.

The two biggest reasons to get an 09 are the engine reverse and the powerclaw track. But if your going to get an 09, you might as well get the 10 so you get both + another 10% more HP.

I barely see a reason to get an M1000 unless your going to get an older one for a good price. The 2010 M8 is d@mn impressive, it doesnt have the legs my M1000 does, but its lighter, and just as fun to ride.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Just considering the std as it seems there are more of them available up here in canada. I'm pretty sure I've decided on the 09 but it seems the best prices are on the std models m1000. I'll do some more dickering and see what happens. I would prefer the SP, mainly for the telescoping bars as I'm 6'4".

If seen lots of bent front ends, but never seen a float that needed anything more than the top eye, the outer air sleeve makes the shock much stronger.
Almost never a reason to buy a shock, a standard shock will bend the shaft, and the bent shaft will take out the seal head, $75 to 150 for the repair, shock rebuild required. Like I've said before I've never seen a float bend anything but the top eye, you can change those at home, no special tools required.

As soon as I put that 2" AMP riser on my 09' SP, I'm gonna be pretty happy with the height I will wager ... it's decnet now, but just a little bit higher would be even nicer ... I'm the same height as you.

08 m1000

i just bought an m1000 leftover cheap.i got him to throw in the fox shocks on the deal and bought the steering post seperate and put it in myself took about an hour very easy to do,i will just have to find a power claw track next.it is still way cheaper doing it this way though.

Is it really cheaper after the Powerclaw and engine reverse? You must have got a hell of a deal!

price difference

A126?
Why the difference in price between the M8's and the M1000's at Red Deer Power? Is the M8 that much more in demand than the M1000, and / or is the M1000 more problematic? At 230 lbs I thought the M1000 would be better suited but are they troublesome?

zero pros are twice the shock, floats leave a lot to be desired when in the rough. air shocks were never a good ride on a car, they're not much better on a sled, saving a whole pound is not worth sacrificing 10 times the ride...

Love my SP. wouldnt even consider a standard unless it was a great deal. That being said, I ride hard pack trails and ditches often, its less of an issue in the mountains. I want to be able to know that i can jump almost anything within my abilites and know that the sled is going to take it. Plus, i love being able to say that i ride a SNO-PRO!

I had the same dilemna last spring. I wasn't a Cat guy and really didn't care for the orange or green color. The only color I could tolerate was the white. I actually like the white/ orange and black color scheme of the Sno Pros.

The powerclaw is simply amazing - you'd lose a lot of capability if you don't have one on your sled.

The adjustable bars are very nice to have but, with the Boss or 2010 seat, the highest position is about right for standing or sitting.

The electronic reverse is so nice and saves 11 lbs.

The Floats need a trip to Andy Youngstrom and $100 to make them work the way they should.

The deluxe gauge is very nice to have as well. Especially with a gage cage so you can see it while standing.

Best of luck

I think it's more personal taste. The Zero Pros in my opinion are a much better shock. The HCR has them over the floats for a reason. The gauge is no big deal to me either. Then the color comes into play. The white is horrible in my opinion. The black is much better. Buy a standard, have the shocks revalved, add a pipe and intake, a better seat and ride the hell out of it.

I have the Zero Pros on my 900 RMK .... they sure do a hell of a lot better in rough terrain than these floats do ..

I don't have a lot of seat time on these floats, but it seems to me like they really do soak up the big hits well, but man they just don't react fast enough to the moguls ....
