smith family motors

so me and the wife went car shopping this past weekend and found a car we like at smith family motors in draper, everything was what we wanted except the color, price was fair but i asked if they would be willing to pay for tax and license. (thinking they would have maybe a counteroffer). so the sales man says well let me talk to my boss and i will call you later, not let me talk to him, hang on a sec. (now this is where the story gets weird). so me and my wife kind of confused why he wanted us to leave with out one of his cars takes off. about an hour later he calls and says we are going to refuse your offer, you might want to find somewhere else to shop. now that seemed strange to me cause we were ready to sign the papers on this unit, has anyone ever dealt with these guys before? just wondering if anyone has had any good, bad, or weird experiences with these guys?

That is weird!! was the sales guy cool up till that point? Only dealership that I can honestly recommend is Ed Kenley Ford in Layton. Shain is the used car manager I think. Straight shooter. I love new cars and trucks but when it comes time to close the deal I always end up getting pissed off but those guys up there just seem to not be DB's! And the service dept is great to work with!!!

sales dude seemed cool up til then, we took the car for a test drive he said he didn't need to come with us, take it as long as we want. it seemed pretty laid back, that kinda sealed the deal, you know not any pressure really and we like that. not saying i will not still buy a car from there but was hoping to get some input before we decide if we want to go back.

before we decide if we want to go back.

What? Why would you even consider IF you want to go back? If they said they wouldn't meet your offer, and then suggested you go look elsewhere then I would do just that.

A company that wanted your business would have politely asked you for a moment while they contacted their supervisor for approval (while you waited). Then when they couldn't meet the offer, the answer should have been an apology, but a sincere desire to keep your business.

exactly........ :tsk: Good luck. Hope for a better result if you do go back..

Does Utah have a problem with costumer service? Seems to be the topic of a number of post lately......... :frown:

Sometimes as a salesman, you are better off not selling a car haha.
Kinda weird, I'm sure there is a reason behind it. Maybe just ask him why, he'll probably give you a strait up legitimate answer.

And no, I'm not related to them!

Was you trading a car in??

For me, I would be happy that they let me leave. Usually they keep you there to wear you down even though they don't plan on budging on their price and going back and forth playing the game. To me, that was excellent customer service!!
