Small Business - What would you Start?

Yeah but just remember, for every hot chick has a fat mom and an ugly sister.

If i were you i would buy $1,000,000 of stock in gas, wait for it to go up $.10 and sell out. $100,000 profit..... Just imagine if you would have put in 1 billion a year ago! It has gone up what, $.50? You could never loose money buying stock in gas as long as you keep it a while.

A woman I work with was telling me about having to go in for a consultation before getting her breasts implants. I think being a consultant in that aspect would be a wonderful hands on kind of job. :D

This guy may have pioneered your idea:

I've been kicking around the idea of dabbling in the day trading game for fun and extra $$ but my chances are probably as good as a reservation casino right now.

Anybody know of an good basic books on self directed investing.

been looking but man it's tough to weed through all the sensational "follow my investing plan and be a millionaire" scam books out there. I want to try to get something that is basic fundamentals first and go from there. preferably on CD as I spend an inordinate amount of time driving for someone that doesn't drive truck. Was hoping someone on here had come across some good ones.

My neighbor is a VP for DA Davidson and over dinner one night a couple years back I asked him the same question. I had 2 different friends that kept their full time jobs and did day trading on the side who claimed they were rolling in it. I decided I had the smarts to give it a go too. When I asked my neighbor about day trading he answered all my questions in one simple statement. He said "do you think all us brokers would run around all day with our noses up your butts trying to make 3% off your investments if day trading really worked". He went on to say that he had all kinds of upper level info and forcasts that no day trader has access to and still he pounds the streets looking for clients.

I think if you could (long term) sit at home with a laptop and make good cake, all the brokers would be doing that and not dealing with the public whiners like myself. BTW my 2 buddies took out credit card debt to cover their day trading and one has lost it all while the other is slowly working out of the giant day trader rut in his real estate businiess. Be careful and only use the money you would have taken to that casino to experiment with. EW

That's what I've heard about it. I'm more looking for like what you said and just using a little side cash to see what I could do with it. I know it can be a vicious game if you get too sucked into it.

A monkey throwing darts at the stock page of the newspaper to determine investments has similar results as the guys that do it for a living. Some university students did this experiment many years ago.

I thought I had a great idea till my accountant squashed my plans.

I was going to have a grocery store with a whorehouse above it but my accountant said there would be to much f***ing overhead.

When the economic market is down buy all the real estate you can afford. foreclosures, bail outs, residential or commercial are all wise investment.

Day Trading are for those who are to lazy to get of of bed to get a real job. And in many cases you have better odd's at the poker table than you do day trading.

^^^what OT said.

5 years from now you'll regret not buying real estate in this market. Out of adversity, comes opportunity.

And compared to the stock market, your return on investment is exponentially greater...and here's why:

If you want 100k worth of stock, you need 100k. If you want 100k worth of real estate, you only need 20-25k.

If both appreciate 5% a year, at the end of the year you'll have assets worth 105k. This represents a 5% gain in the stock market, and a 20-25% gain in the real estate (return on your cash invested). Plus, you get to write off the interest that a renter is paying for.

Good points OT and Modsldr. Are either of you trying your hand with real estate at this time?

Been investing in real estate for 10 years. Right now is one of the best buyers markets I've seen...example: Last week at the sheriff's auction (foreclosure auction), out of about 100 properties, 8 actually went to auction and all sold for $1 over the minimum bid (as set by the bank...this is usually what is owed). So many properties that the regular investors are running out of capital until they sell a few of their investments.

And Seattle is still a strong real estate market!! I'm sure the deals in Southern Cal and FLA are insane!! And wait until we have a couple of hurricanes (been a couple of quiet years, FLA is due) that market is going to blow up!!

Yah, but the entrance fee is much higher than it was 10 years ago. Also, you got to enjoy the 10% minimum growth in value for quite a few years. I am not saying it is not possible, just that the entrance capital has increased to that which makes it difficult for people to start doing it now. I here what you are saying though.

You do small condo's mostly? Or just homes? Or dabble in a little bit of everything?

I agree ruff, this is what makes this market hard for someone like myself to get into, just don't have the capital I would like to start with.
